Those were my thoughts as well. I don't understand why they would knock down the old tower if the new one wasn't going to be built.
Can someone in the area check the local city hall for any building permits?

If they wer egoing to do anything soon, one would have to be filed and approved!

A new tower will be a lot more expensive that the real old one. Federal, State, and Local ADA and building rules have a lot more requirements. [Elevators, bigger restrooms, and on and on!].

That being said, new bigger and better "Sponsor Suites" would help pay off the costs over time.

There is no space problem and it could even be moved closed to the starting line, as there is a large open area between the old tower and the big grandstands.

Part of what is going on here is probably connected to NHRA's "Not for Profit" corporation status. While it is OK to have an office (really Headquaters) in a different state than you are incorporated in your leagal address and where your primary business is excuted California requires that you can be served at your California address. If NHRA changes its Corporation filing to another state they will never get the advantages they now have. A new "Not for Profit" in California would not get what they have now. If the new building on the property at Indy houses the primary operations and staff of the corporation it pretty much eliminates NHRA from having California being it's base and the thinly disguised "Not for Profit" status is in trouble. Some one said that they heard that there is a five year exit plan for the property. If that was true there would be no Capital spending for the place which would be mowed down for Housing - Industrial Park or Businesses. It looks like there is just the always SNAFU when things are done by a Committe with all Chiefs and NO Indians.

There is not a plan to exit the property. In fact, there is a multi-year plan for major improvements to the property.

Thank you. This is what I was wondering after seeing that. So the US nationals are going to be run out of railroad box cars? That’s pretty funny, and cool at the same time if true. Should be interesting. I hope they can get it done.
Like Dragway 42

One wonders what has happened to delay this? Certainly they wouldn't have torn down the old tower without knowing that the new one would be done in plenty of time for this year's Nationals.

Could the previous tower have been condemmed? Serious mold issues had been mentioned, along with leaky roof..

This was not a planned demolition.

Scroll down to very last photo for what new tower will look like.
Hahaha!

Let’s wish them the best on this, folks. NHRA, as a benevolent despot, really needs to survive and flourish for the benefit of us all.

We haven’t heard anything about the new tower at Indy. I agree, I also don’t think it’s going to be done. This is going to be very interesting.

You know, a good place to hold the US nationals, if indeed the tower cannot be finished, would be route 66.

Why do you have to have a big fancy tower to run an existing track with everything else still there, am I missing something here 👀😎

Unless you have to jump through a bunch of hoops for permits it mke no sense. For the one race they could rent temporary office buildings and be set up in a few days even stacking them. What I don't understand is most of the functional part of existing towers are a fancy facade and Plain Jane on the inside anyway which is really all you need to run the race. Being a Taj Mahal does not improve the racing or help the spectators (fans) or the racers. It just makes it more "Cushy" for people that are not paying to get in that is built with our Dollars.

A "cushy"tower is good for sponsors.
Yes: & so is a Hospitality trailer which almost everyone with Sponsor(s) (Racers) has that the Sponsors people usually go to. It could impress potential Facility and Series sponsors. A fancy tower is nice but should not affect attendance by the paying people or Racers if it can't be finished in time for Indy 2024. A really nice place for seminars and displays by companies that are actually involved with vehicles and/or drivers seem to me to be a better focus than entertaining a few people that are alredy involved.

they gotta' build something ..... sonoma mite work from the suites above bleachers if they don't host non-national event drag races.
try reading names / classes / dials from way up there. as long as dials are scratched out on windows minutes before a run, i think you need that
number to be seen from a close distance (from tower) ...... wondering if sonoma won't be a challenge anyways.
