Everyone has choices to make about every single situation known to mankind. I can't help but wonder what the Rutgers women may have done without the intervention of the 'Reverends' (and I use that term very loosely).
From what I've seen and heard of them, they all have enough dignity and self esteem to have said, 'hey! I know that's not true about me/us'. And let it go. We'll never know.
Imus was way off base with that remark, as he has been with other remarks for decades. That is why he is called a SHOCK JOCK. There MUST be a market for such rude and hateful dialog, because he's been on the airwaves for a very long time!
Also, I must have missed the news releases about the ACLU running to Don Imus' aid and filing a lawsuit, protecting his 'freedom of speech'. Would someone please send one to me?
Make NO mistake, I am disgusted by the use of any racial words to describe any person of any race, color or creed. To do so, only reveals that person's character and ignorance and disrespect.
But I am also disgusted by double standards set forth by any person, group, organization, and most of all, people who call themselves 'Reverends'. God help them when they stand in front of the Creator one day. Sharpton and Jackson cause more harm for their people then they help. Why don't they take a stand against the derogatory lyrics in RAP music? Or, is it really ok for black people to call each other whatever they want to? According to one 'hip hop' performer, the answer is 'yes'. I don't think so.
The Rutgers players will survive this shock jock, Don Imus. But will the black community survive Sharpton & Jackson? That, I'm not so sure of.

that's because they view hip-hop/rap music as "art", a part of the young black culture, a way for them to express themselves without seeing the obvious double standard that they are setting up.

I'm not a fan of Imus. That said, I can't help but feel the only racist actions here were against a white guy making an rude and insulting comment. I guess I just think if a "person of color" had made the same remark it would not have blown into such a big deal. Imus was rude, insensitive, and wrong. He apologized. The apology was accepted. Isn't there a movie called "White Men Can't Jump"???????????? The title sound pretty racist to me ( I know it is a good movie)...

This was opportunism at it's finest! Chris Rock lays his own people out on stage every time he gets a mike in his hand and is paid very well for it. All the "Shock-Jocks" seek opportunities every day to raise any eyebrows they can at whomever's expense under the guise of free speech yet somehow we feel it's time to throw one guy under the bus? I did try freshman year at college but the level of competition was so much higher I ended up being third man on the second relay team.... My first track meet in college was at Marquette at the starting height was six feet and everyone else passed because it was "too low". I missed three times...

Are you mistakenly believing I said other races couldn't jump? Nothing could be further from the truth! As a high jumper myself, (only 6'6") I've followed the sport since Valerie Brummel from Russia held the world record at 7' 5 3/4" in 1963. He was white but ALL RACES can jump and have demonstrated such time and again. Don't misquote me Mr. Moon.
For the record, my oldest son Buzzz, was the 8th ranked decathlete in the US at the time he was invited to the Atlanta Olympic trials. Although either of these high jumpers could have easily out scored him in the high jump, I shutter to think about their overall score after the Shot, Disc, 110M High Hurdles, 100 M, 1500 M, long jump, javelin, 400M, and pole vault?
I'll not discount their greatness in any way but don't disrespect other's with a disrespectful post such as yours came across.

I was only pointing out that the current record holder for the high jump is 7'10" and the world record is 8' 0 1/4". You even point out that the world record was set at 7' 5 3/4" in 1963, so yes, Any color athlete can jump far over 7' so your statement is erroneous. Would you agree?
The point I take exception in your post is that "very few world class athletes of any color who could say that."
If youu have never attended the Drake Relays, it is the norm to not get to the podium with less then 7'4" these days.
The thread is about Imus and racism, so I just thought that I might point out that fact based on your prelude to your statement that "very few world class athletes of any color who could say that".
If I wandered into a track thread, so be it, but based on the topic, and your post, it seems like athletes of any color could say they had not jumped above 7', I thought I would post pics of men of color that hold American and World records. It just so happens that Cubans and African Americans are kicking butt in the high jump.
An African American and Cuban have at least 6" more than your sons. Thats all.
My specialty is baseball. 5 scholarship offers my junior year. Invitational work out camps with the Reds, Twins, Royals, Phillies White Sox and Athletics.
I survived day 2 in all of them, day 3 with the Royals, Sox and A's.
I screwed up, went drag racing. Believe it or not, a curveball is easier to hit that cut a light.
Bruce Jenner would be proud of your sons. But I suspect they could not hold a candle to him.

Not bad for a Football player, which was his scholorshiped sport, I'd say?
Bruce was retired prior to Buzzz's competition but he competed several times against Dan O'Brien and Dave Johnson. Although he didn't outscore them, he "held a candle" as you say in individual events and, once again, there are very few in the world who can say that.
