Re: Imas

Lets put this into perspective.......I'm a radio broadcaster on NM Radio Network (Nitro Mater Radio network) And our own Ron Dunlap is racing His Nostaliga Flopper at Bristol and He's just lost the final round after overcoming huge odds just to get the car staged.....And I'm in the booth " Man that Dunlap dude is rough lookin' ...yea he's a long haired freaky lookin' kracker, Truck driver? man he looks like he should be robbing banks not drag racing.." Now I've only met Ron once, and He is a really nice individual, a class act and a professional truck driver. But to those who don't know him would you judge Him by what I just said "on the air"?........ If you are in the public eye then you must be responsible for EVERYTHING! BTW I didn't PM Ron to ask his permission to say this stuff but I do owe Him a plate of Ribs next time thru, so He'll be ok with it... :) Thick skin or not, if you don't know someone then keep your mouth shut. Imus was a fool for saying anything off the top of his head about a group of Girls He know's absolutley nothing about.

Re: Imas

And naturally, meanwhile I'm sitting here wondering if I'd have to get permission from Neal Boortz to use "Mighty Whitey" on the side of the funny car! :D LOL, just kidding, already got permission from Gary Litton to keep "Tennessee Shaker" on it!

I'm a long haired conservative. It keeps the Republicans honest and the liberals confused. :D

I think it's all in perception. Doesn't Imus have a history of applying humor to racism? Hasn't he said a lot of things in the past about other races that he didn't lose his job over?

I'm reminded of some things that have happened on this board before. What is and isn't appropriate often seems to depend on who's saying it and who it's being said about much more than WHAT is being said.

Re: Imas

A five gal. bucket of Mobil One at least Kenny.
Those Rutgers girls would never have known who Imus was if Soros Media Matters hadn't tipped off Sharpton .
Word is [ Keith Olberman has already said it ] that Rush is next then Glen Beck and Sean Hannity.
Imus was just an easy target but you can easily take comments out of contexts and get the ball rolling.
Like I said few people even knew who Imus was.
He got away with it for over 30 years and isn't nearly insulting as Stern.
The Dem's lost a good platform as most of his guests were of that persuasion.
The left can't get the Fairness Doctrine in Media law enacted to limit talk radio so this is the end around to accomplish the same thing.
Yeah Imus was critical of people on both sides but the template is set.
You go after the stations or the network get a protest going and threaten the sponsors and they fold [ who needs this] and walah, goals met.
Welcome to Stalin's tactics in the USA.

If that's the case, I wouldn't want to be Chris Rock or Kat Williams in the near future, because the pendulum will be swinging the other way soon...

Re: Imas

people like al sharpton give liberals (such as myself) a bad name in my opinion. I'll be waiting for his and jesse jackson's apologies to the recently exonerated Duke Lacrosse players after some of the things they said about those kids last year

i get the feeling i will be waiting awhile for that

Re: Imas

cbs could have gone either way on this and it would have faded from
the news within a week (as it will) .
sharpton and jackson can't keep their g#d*mn mouths shut if they tried;
their opinions and statements are almost meaningless as they say
the same damn things each and every time there is an episode like this.
(michael richards / lacrosse players / tawana b./etc.)
sure they lost some advertisers.....how do we know this? because we
were told this by the media? do you not think new advertisers would have
come on board because his show would then draw more attention?

personally, i think imus was past his prime, his rating were not what they
once were and cbs needed a bomb like this to free up a sh*tload of money.

Re: Imas

I don't think the perception of racism will ever go away until those who profit from it do, such as the Sharptons and Jacksons of the world.

My gosh, I was watching CNN the other week and some black person was giving the "perspective" of black voters. At what point in life do you decide that you're the official spokesperson of your race? :D And, why don't they do that with white people? Why don't I hear anyone being asked, with someone on the other side anwering, "What DO white people expect out of this next election?" :D

As far as comedy goes, that's where I go the other way. I LOVE comedy based in racism. Gives us an opportunity to laugh at ourselves and each other, IMO, even if it's about stereotypes. Probably because, to me, it IS comedy and doesn't mean anything.

I listen to hip hop and rap music. I was shocked to hear the station that I listen to on Friday, they were referring to Imus using the same words he had used towards to rutgers girls. Isn't wrong, wrong? How is it ok for a black dj to say it. To me its dumb either way:confused:

Me too, I love people that make us laugh at our own stupidty and make us think at the same time. Carlos Mencia is awesome at that. Ralphie May is too.

Re: Imas

LOL, I love listening to Carlos on XM. The one where he talks about a rich Mexican and someone white doing his lawn? Something like "People are disrespecting me. I quit!" "I'll pay you another $500 a week." "Hell, it ain't THAT bad!" LOL.

Believe it's called a double standard. I've said for years that if you say it and can't replace whatever race you're using with "white" and have it still sound okay, it's racism. Reverse prejudice IS prejudice. We grew up hearing "A mind is a terrible thing to waste" when they really meant "A black mind is a terrible thing to waste." Black history month. Black Entertainment Television. The only thing offensive to me about it is that it all keeps division going. People are actually supporting what they say they're against.

You've already heard my opinions about putting any other country in front of what you're born in. "Anything"-American. If you're born here, you're an American. If someone moves here from Africa, they're an African-American. If you've never been out of Alabama, you're an American.

Re: Imas

How was his statment racist?

He was making no claims that one race was superior over another race.....

that IS what racism means.
Don

Re: Imas

What Imus said was wrong..period.

It was taken way out of control for an agenda..Sharpton & Jackson's..they jump on the cause (whatever that is)..

Like has been said..they certainly won't apologize when THEY went up the wrong tree..and what kind of role models are they..Jackson with his extramarital sh!t and all? He has no right to sayanything..IMO. Sharpton and Tawanne (sp)..give me a fargin break.

Re: Imas

Like I said, at what point in your life do you decide that you're the spokesperson for your race? :D Am I going to get up some morning and say "By gosh, I CAN speak for all white people, and it's time I got paid for doing it!" :D

Re: Imas

........Imus didnt get fired for what he said, he got fired because CBS is losing sponsers and as we all know 'it's all about the money'. As you know CBS suspended Imus for two weeks, then all of a sudden the sponsers start droping like bad habits and bada boom, bada bing, Imus is fired

The sponsors didn't even bother to find out if their target audience was affected by what Imus said. They were too terrified that al sharptoon or jessie jackoff was going to extort money out from them for remaining a sponsor of the Imus show.

We all know sharptoon and jackoff are racist opportunists who don't give a crap about advancing the people of their race. Now the former sponsors of the Imus show have shown their true colors as spineless weasels who won't stand up to these scam artists and don't understand the concept of freedom of speech as guaranteed in the First Amendment.
