Immigration laws in Oklahoma and Arizona?

I'm curious from those who live there if there's a noticeable change in those states? I'm sure many of those living in Arizona will end up here draining our coffers as well.

Unfortunately, we are getting many of them.
I see new "we just got here" faces every day.
It's really bad.

On another site I where hang out, there is a politics section.
This one gal from New Hampshire, bright, with a strong background in finance, was saying Arizona is doomed, and shooting themselves in the foot by "getting rid" of the cheap labor.
Those of us that live down here have a totally different perspective.

OK, Yo hablo Ingles. Our new law simply states there will be fines and penalties for any employer caught using labor who either do not have social security cards or labor visas. Fifteen minutes ago my stucco guys left. I've extended the patio across the entire home in the back yard. The man lathing the pillars and beams spoke no English whatsoever and I asked my good buddy, his boss, how this works given the new laws. He simply stated that it's the worker's responsibility to produce the authorized documentation for anyone he hires. He still has the same number of hispanic employees as he had prior to the new law being enacted. The real fallout for these illegals is in the deadbeats who just come here to have their babies on our money. They need short-term employment to stay alive and most of them didn't plan for the long haul by getting properly authorized so they have moved over to other states who are behind this very important legislative curve.

Make no mistakes about it. We still have a giant percentage of manual laborers who have come here to produce at a fair price. Construction, agriculture, manufacturing, assembly and lots of the more skilled trades are filled with hispanic labor-many of whom have gone the distance to be here legally and they now make up a large part of society. They own real estate, businesses, and even work towards citizenship-go figure? With the new law, we just require them to be properly authorized. Now, how they get this authorization isn't the business of the employers so if you want to gripe, there's the rub.

It's amazing how those in States with little illegal populations tell those of us in the SW how to manage ourselves. Why how in the world did we ever compete in the 80's-90's without illegal workers?

This isint a good subject with me at all so all I have to say is they should change the name of the state from Texas to Mexas. That would suit it better.

This is an entire country of immigrants with the exception of the Native American Indians (Lamanites) and it will continue to be made up of immigrants. Every one of us non-Indians came from immigrant families and millions more will in the future. The giant problem is that our ancestors were required to accept America's ways, learn English, abide strict immigration laws and work toward citizenship. There will always be immigration into the United States. There MUST be a return to the previously accepted practice of legal immigration or prompt deportation with sanctions on any bordering country who doesn't enact appropriate laws to deal with their own side of the borders in accordance with those we accept. Without U.S. aid Mexico would completely collapse. Our money (or the lack of it) could prompt quick legislation and enforcement in their own country. Enforcement ruled the day back then and needs to be ruling today as well.

Excellent filibuster Bobby and I agree 100%

Very True Bobby, but your Ascendents as well as mine came here to live the American Dream to be an AMERICAN! Most of the illegal Mexican population here in the Southwest has absolutely no desire to learn the language or the culture. But simply to get on the federal dole by Politicians who look at Illegals as Future Voters!

We deal with this every day, hispanic customer that seemingly get mad at us because we don't speak english. When you write up a work order, and ask for address and phone, they hand you a mexican drivers license. I for one get really pissed when I think my car insurance can go up because there are so many running around with no insurance or license. I feel that they want us to comply with their culture and language, even though this is our country. And we won't even get into the May 1st debacle from 2006!

Actually, it's pretty split here. You have the Hispanic group of people who will stand there and speak to you in Spanish getting angry because you don't/won't speak their language. Then on the flip side you have the Hispanic people who will turn around and tell them "speak English, this is America." And very loudly, I might add. I have heard conversations here that have content like "You are here illegally because your parents didn't come here legally" and "You are taking jobs that don't belong to you." One woman I know mentioned something about someone she knows that is here legally, but doesn't speak English, so aside from going to work, he will not leave the house to go out in public very often because he is embarrassed. I know people that live in other parts of the country (more Northern) that worry about telling people their last name because so many people do not make the distinction between someone who was born & raised in the country for generations or someone who is here illegally.

There are things that everyone needs to celebrate within their families and with their friends, traditions are not limited to Hispanic people. Your family traditions should be remembered and practiced regardless of the nationality of origin. Languages are not limited to one culture. While I think that the national language should be the American version of English, I do think that other languages need to be taught and learned as we are not an island, isolated from the world.

It is not just Hispanic people that cause car insurance to go up, and it never has been only one group of people. (I am thinking of the blond idiot that actually STOPPED at the end of the on ramp yesterday instead of using the merge lane.) Auto insurers seem to be one of the most greedy groups of people around they will find whatever reason they can to push for more money. hmmmm, where have I heard that before?

Immigration, illegal or legal is a problem that needs to be resolved, but name calling and whining isn't going to fix it. The only way for people to get things done it to actually get in contact with the people they voted for and let them know what an acceptable resolution would be. It is going to take more than one person, but it all has to start somewhere. The answer will probably have to take more than one approach rather than a "one size fits all." It will need to be economically sound.

Mexico is not the only country we help...

In fact can anyone here name the country that we aid the most and the country who receives the least from the USA?

Can anyone name a first world country ran by hispanics or African-Americans?

Can anyone here point me to a neighborhood that I can re-locate to that is primarily filled w/ Hispanics or African-Americans and have good schools/low crime/etc..??

Is there any third-world country being governed by whites?

Just curious....

While I agree it helps today to know spanish, but we shouldnt be expected to know it. However, since they live here and need to function in society without everyone bending to there needs, they need to learn English. I didnt get 2 jobs 2 years ago that I wanted b/c I didnt speak spanish, thats bs! I told the guy the last time I checked this was still the United States of America.

If I moved to Mexico I wouldnt expect them to speak english for me, I'd learn spanish so I could communicate and function. This country is giving everything away to them and the politicians arent doing a damn thing about it and it sucks. We can write 100 letters a day and nothing is going to happen. The only way something will change is if we threw everyone out of Washington and started completely over with people who care about this country instead of padding there pockets or if we actually ever get a decent honest politician. And that isint going to happen any time soon.

For crying out loud, right now our government is more concerned with whether Barroid or Clemens took steriods or why tapes of the Pats film on other teams were destroyed rather than trying to fix healthcare, immigration problems, insurance problems, etc...... Its just crazy.

In 13 years at the shop I am at, I have dealt with a lot of spanish speaking clients, and have never experienced this one time at all. I don't dispute people bettering their lives, but do it LEGALLY. The borders need to be shut down, plain and simple.

I am tired of my tax dollars helping those who aren't here legally, and tired of illegally earned income going south of the border.

I'm with you...........

and I need to get off that '666' post number.....

America has even slipped to 4th place on quality of life for 2007:

#1--Norway ( 0 Homicides in 2007)
#2--Canada (who had only 10 gun related deaths in 2007)
#3--Austrailia (9 gun related deaths in 2007)
#4--USA (4975 gun related deaths)

I know it is not the gun that kills but it is the mindset of people here and BTW all of those countries listed above have more gun ownerships than America per capita...

I will try and post the link....
