IHRA Virginia

holy crap the qualifying sheets for STK are mind boggling. no AHFS and i think great weather today.

Remember… our indexes are 0.300 slower than NHRA
thanks josh, i thought they were the same. so marshall's -1.798 under for #1 Q, really reads like -1.498 with nhra indexes?
still factoring that, the top 3 cars laid down big numbers.

i don't understand where there is any advantage to having slower indexes than the nhra.
why not just leave the same? seems like an easy solution so everyone can run both series as easily as possible with matching numbers.
does ihra implement any sort of teardown beyond their tech procedure?
two cars ran darn near -1.50 under their nhra indexes.

I’m not sure why, but IHRA has always been .3 slower. It’s just a numbers thing, in the end.

This is considered mineshaft conditions, so even at NHRA AHFS would not be in effect. Mineshaft is determined when half plus one of the field is .80 (NHRA) under or more. In our case, 1.10 under. 21 of 35 stockers went more than 1.10 under, and 18 of 34 Super Stock.

Yikes, where are the fans? I think there's more people standing on the starting line than what is in the stands. On a side note, they just said that Jasmine is sick and won't be driving. I think they said Jon Capps is driving.

Why is the IHRA show so slow? Literally the first round of fuel ended as the first round started in Pomona and NHRA ran both sessions before they started the 2nd session in Richmond. This is a contributing factor why no one is in the stands.

Interesting air numbers from yesterday. The increase in DA was 1150 feet from 9 AM to 11 AM.

Indeed very interesting! Seems like the track is bit hard especially the left lane seeing a lot of cars getting out of shape (pro mid etc) or smoking the tires (nitro).

Anyway, great show just like the previous events. Really like what IHRA have put up

While the Brandon Pesz crash didn’t help the pace, they want to treat most categories as Professional classes. While NHRA only ran 6 classes from the start of Alcohol through the end, IHRA is running 12 classes. You got Alky, Small tire, two Pro Mod classes, snow mobile, MMPS, Harley, Fuel Altered and then Nitro. NHRA have taken heat from the Alky racers for years for being ran early, then very late and being pushed around the schedule. IHRA isn’t doing that but it ends up pushing the Nitro cars to very late into the show where that is what most of the casual fans are there to see.

But but 8th mile racing is what the fans want LOL

As much as I'm happy there is an alternate event source, how are they going to keep the doors open and the lights on when there are more crew guys on the starting line for the nitro finals than there are paying fans in the stands?

I enjoyed watching this race. The fuel categories were good, nearly everyone made it down under power, the finals in T/F and F/C were close, MMPS and P/M (both classes) were good. Records were set, weather and track conditions were great, but, no body in the stands.
I don’t get it. Hopefully it will get better but I have my doubts.

I thought IHRA was going to run Top Fuel and Funny Car to 1000 ft at the Outlaw series. Have I mixed up this type race with another?
