Mike, first it was announcing now its the tv show. AS you all know its 2 different jobs and you are assuming that someone wants to make a change for a different job.

I don't know about others, but to me part of what makes a great announcer is knowledge of the cars, classes, and the nuances of racing. Just a few examples on the Big Show side are guys like Alan Reinhardt, Brian Lohnes, and Jason Galvin (nhra.tv) who are well versed in all those areas. They are good at turning the class idiosyncrasies into points of interest that expand viewers' or attendees' understanding of what's going on both on track and behind the scenes. The better announcers have patterned their style (in part) after legends like Steve Evans and Bob Frey, whose depth of knowledge was outstanding. Not saying there are no ladies that can do this, but they appear to be few and far between. Interviewers like Amanda or Jamie serve a different purpose in racing media and are good at what they do, but that doesn't necessarily make them good announcers.

I still think Jack Beckman would be a good announcer.

Jimi. has both but doesnt make him a good announcer. Not saying he wouldnt but I've never heard announce

Years ago Jamie Howe was an announcer for a few of the NHRA Sportsman shows. She did well, but moved up to the main show as a pit reporter. I think that both her and Amanda do a great job in their roles.

I haven't read this whole thread, so forgive if it was discussed already, but Kathy Fisher would be my vote.

She is very knowledgeable and a great voice.

FOX is in a pickle when it comes to televised promos. They are going to be hard pressed to want to get a viewer to leave FOX main to go to FS1. NASCAR is already on FOX main, so theres no chance of NASCAR broadcasts costing them ad revenue. FS1 is a specialty channel with lower revenue generating ads, so FOX isnt going to purposely draw eyes from main to FS1. It's not their bread and butter. Plus, every promo on FOX main is time they can't sell as advertising time. It's shooting themselves in the foot with both barrels. NHRA has to give FOX a better show before the commercial promos change. Right now we are still a few steps ahead of being a cable access show lol, but we need to trend in the right direction. Lessons need to be learned from the other leagues on how to translate spectatorship into profitable TV.

Actually that's not quite how it works. If a cable channel (such as FS1) has low viewership and no programming worth watching, cable companies will just drop it. Obviously FOX doesn't want that to happen. So they will intentionally put some of their quality programming that would normally be on FOX on FS1 to increase viewership for that channel. It makes ads on FS1 more valuable, therefore netting FOX more money. Plus, it forces cable companies to keep FS1, or face a bunch of backlash from their subscribers. Because of that, FOX can demand a higher price from the cable companies to carry FS1, which also brings in more revenue. FOX is available free over the air to just about anyone with an antenna, so they don't have this issue with the main network.
