Really there are only so many questions you can ask at the finish line. With four classes you have 60 round losers and 64 round winners at a race. Unless something crazy happens like a pedalfest, blowup, controversy, first win and such how many ways things can you ask.

Now add in doing it those interviews at 20+ races a season and it's hard to not sound like you are repeating yourself

I think his far into the season everyone knows Capps and AB own their operations. It doesn’t need to be repeated eeryrace. Also every race is not the 1988 IHRA Texas Nationals, 4.99 has been run, the current race may or may not be as exciting as the last one. Stop the made up drama.

Post covid optimist: if all we have to bitch about is the interview questions, I guess it’s a good year. Two years ago who guessed we’d now have mostly full fields, record performances, great competition, new owners and sponsors. Just glad I can watch a Race every week or two and it’s as good as ever. Too tired to restart the countdown format debate too. 🤭

Not to mention sell out crowds and high tv ratings. The sky is falling... somewhere, I guess.

gary gerald asked those questions......i'll have to listen to bruno when he does his top end and pit interviews. see if he varies from the ladies.
what other form of motorsports offers so many interviews by winning and losing drivers all day long
Have to disagree. Both ask formatted questions. “ you just won the race, how will you maintain that momentum going into the next race.”? Or - “ you have to race the number 1 car next round, how will you prepare for that?”
Ugh
Busick also announces some sports car races (the Indy enduro last weekend, for example) and does a better job than in the NHRA events. I suspect that may be due to an NHRA preferred/mandated format. She was much more spontaneous at the Indy road race event.

It also appears to be the format for a driver in the NHRA interviews to simply abruptly turn and walk away for an end of the interview. Weird...

That is something I've always wondered is if there is someone in her ear (producers) telling her what to ask and basically following a script of sorts. I've noticed since Covid whoever is at the top end does not interview the second a driver gets out of the car which I think takes away some of the emotion of the moment and instead interviews the driver a few minutes later in a spot near where they have the monitors set up.

Dont know about now but when I worked national events there was never any format or someone in your ear.

I thought Amanda did a good job the one time I saw her on Barrett-Jackson. Both she and Jamie are definitely a credit to the broadcast team for the NHRA. I've always thought they both did a good job.

I think it is time to give a woman a chance to call a race, either on the track PA or on Fox. I don't think we need gravitas on the mic, an 11000 hp top fueler has gravitas for all of us.

I'd have no issues with a purely announcerless race on TV; just the ambiant sound from the track. The NFL tried it once and it could not be called a failure. Man when Paul Page was bumbling through broadcast after broadcast there was more than once I just turned the volume down and just watched.

Mark, You are assuming there is a woman out there that is even interested in announcing. If, there is one They've never crossed my path any way.

I watched the Friday night session on NHRA tv last night and Jamie did a particularly good job. With the extra cash up for qualifying, she did a lot of interviews and was very natural vs rehearsed or standard lines. The session was painful to watch with all the cleanup and Texas hootin and hollerin.

I think we're enjoying one of the better top-to-bottom announcer crews that we've had in several years for the big show TV stuff. It's a freaking hard job and so much happens on the fly that it amazes me that anyone can do it with any sort of grace, lol!

I'm sure that most of you realize that Jamie and Amanda are race reporters not announcers.
so replace one of the announcers with jamie or amanda, and make the announcer the reporter..........what if the ratings would go up if this happened?
same or better quality of announcing + higher ratings.
