Hight Makes Fifth Test; Drivers Cry Foul

Brent,
I did not see that part so does the rule apply to any vehicle a 'pro' driver makes down the quarter mile during a particular season?

Guess there was alot of 'grey' area when the rule was written.

I am a supporter of NHRA but it seems like they are not covering every aspect of their new rules---countdown/maximum amount runs/etc...and upsetting alot of people who love the sport.

Just my $.02

I won't bash, I just want confirmation on this. The original rule was "team and driver." It was then reinterpreted to the "car and crew chief, not the driver." My question is what do they consider the car number? in the CompPlus article, it says, "In a conversation with Anthony Vestal, NHRA Director of Media Relations, Vestal confirmed that the test being conducted is being charged against the #7 team and is not a violation of the testing rule. 'This is a test being conducted by the #7 team, as you call it, the driver is irrelevant.'" You see, in Reading, the #4 has to be on the side of whatever car Robert Hight is driving. The #7 is on the side of whatever car John Force is driving. The car number goes with the driver, not the body of the car nor the chassis of the car. It just doesn't all add up no matter which way you spin it.

Here is another issue that people say is irrelevant, but I don't believe it is. Let's say Del Worsham has been doing a shabby job of driving, he's tested 4 times and can't test anymore. He doesn't have a teammates car to jump in to work on his driving skills. With that in mind, I think the driver as well as the team should be limited to the same number of days, as the original rule states.

It's a "what if" situation. Don't bash me about using Del's name, I think he's a great driver.

Members of NHRA should impose a fine for $100,001 against the NHRA organization for breaking their own rule. Let this be the largest fine ever levied in the 56 year life of the NHRA "organization" :)

Just wanted to add to what I said earlier.

1. JFR isn't to fault, they asked and played by the rules they were told.
2. NHRA should have told competitors about the apparent "typo" before Hight ever made a pass in John's car.
3. The point of the rule was to lower cost, not really to punish teams for testing. It makes more since for the rule to go with the team, not the driver (even though the rule states both).

Another question I have to ask is this: What if Prock was in the trailer looking at data and getting advice from Berine and Coil? This would sway everything back to the original team problem. I've noticed that everyone in the Force camp except Ashely is running the new Ford motor. Prock, as well as Coil, have struggled with the new combination. There could have been a big meeting of minds in Brainerd to figure it out.

If someone has the facts, please tell me, because I'm just going off of what I've seen on the cars and my assumptions. I'm more interested in knowing the facts and getting opinions on new ideas rather than beating up the same old subject.

Hight has not been running the Ford motor. He was only using the 2 hole Injector. Prior to Indy testing, he put the 3 blade on it, and also ran it that way in Brainerd.

And Terry Haddock losing 120 pts. at St. Louis? When was the last time he was a #1 qualifier and went on to win the race? When was the last time he won a race? He lost the CHANCE @ 120 pts...

1. Terry is the 2008 IHRA F/C champ so he does know how to race; even if it means he is his own crew chief, bottom end, clutch guy and truck driver.

2. We don't race on paper. We race on the track.

3. What does your perception of Terry's competitiveness have to do with the NHRA's ever changing rule book?

To steal a JRF-ism, the bottom line is the rules aren't the same for everyone.

As I have had it explained to me...if a crew chief, team, owner, whatever, is not pushing the gray area of the rulebook, they are not doing their job. If they asked a question and got an answer you don't like...get mad at the person who gave them the answer. Just because your team didn't have the thought process (or balls) to ask don't get mad at Force. He does everything in his power to win. How do you think he made it from a zero to a hero anyway?

Hmmm, lets see...maybe by hiring Tony Pedregon to dive for him for two or three seasons??????

Hmmm...last I checked, IHRA isn't NHRA. Just ask Clay Millican.

I guess their events shouldn't could as testing then.;) BTW, I don't think there is anyone out there right now that works as hard, and gets as much out of as little as Terry Haddock. He should be VERY proud of his IHRA Championship, and he should not have been docked points.

so this is turning into a discussion on the talents of Terry haddock and the worthiness of an IHRA championship:rolleyes:??? I thought we are focusing on JF and the NHRA

Let's see, if memory serves T-Ped won his first championship under the Force banner, no? Not bad for a dive team.

Pretty disappointing post, Terry.
Absolutely correct, Tom, and I think Tony is one heck of a racer. And I respect you as a friend and a poster, so I am sorry my post disappointed you, but I do actually believe there were numerous instances when Tony "underperformed" to John's benefit in the years preceding the championship years. I can't prove it, of course, but I am just basing my belief on the things I saw during that time. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and you are certainly entitled to not agreeing with me. As long as you are just disappointed in my post and don't see it as a personal deal, I'm ok with that. AND thanks to you, my OU friend, for not calling me an idiot as Mr. Holland chose to do...although I am not a JFR supporter (and have made no secret of it) I don't believe that qualifies me as an idiot, and if memory serves, I haven't called anyone names whose opinions differ from mine, as Mr. Holland has chosen to do. And if we're still friends, Tom, how are the Sooners looking for this season?

Bummer, I saw your name as the last poster and hoped you'd gone a derail....

Hi Terry! Where's my popcorn?

Nope, Jenn, no derail--just setting myself up to be called names by another poster, I guess. And the popcorn is about three weeks from harvest, so you really will get some nice fresh popcorn on the ear this year, I promise! (but I guess I'm an Idiot, so who knows if I can figure out how to send it to you or not...;)

No prob, man... just thought that the dive comment was both unwarranted and uncharacteristic of your normal offerings.

Sooners are gonna roll this year, right up until they go under the wheels of the Gator bus.
