HERNANDEZ SCORES LOW ELAPSED TIME IN QUARTERFINAL FINISH

ENNIS, TX (Sept. 24, 2006) - Josh Hernandez threw down a gauntlet so large during Saturday's first round of eliminations at the NHRA O'Reilly Nationals that he accidentally tripped over it as eliminations resumed on Sunday. The AMS Rage driver from Conroe, Texas, was among a handful of drivers making calculated assaults on the elusive five-second zone for legal U.S. Pro Modified doorslammers and Hernandez came the closest with a 6.016.

Hernandez looked to repeat a similar performance in the second round but experienced tire shake and coasted to a much-slower run and an early departure from eliminations. He lost to Kirk Kuhns following Saturday's triumph over John Scialpi.

"We just got after it," Hernandez said. "I guess it's somewhat of a comfort to know we weren't the only team that got bit. It's part of racing. You might not like it but you had better respect it.

"The bottom line is that we did win this weekend. When Troy Critchley and the AMS Staff Leasing Team reached the final round, we all did. They deserve this success and I am happy for them. We'll regroup and be ready for Virginia in two weeks."
