I love reading stories like this! It makes me smile when I read about some robber shooting himself or an armed citizen shoots a criminal.

This merely assures us that he's discontinued the perpetuation of his genes. I think he should be punished for his crime then have some time added for his stupidity to save society from him a little longer?

if we threw people in jail for stupidity we would have an active population of about 700 people....i know i'd be guilty as charged....i mean really....what is the point of prison?? to rehabilitate those who have committed crimes in hopes that it will hinder them from committing future infractions of the law....i don't know about you, but if i shot my balls off trying to commit a robbery...i sure as hell wouldnt try it again!!

He didn't just commit stupidity, he also comitted a crime. If we applied your reasoning across the board robbers that were shot by the home or business owner wouldn't serve any time either. Sorry, I disagree with you. He should spend a mandatory 5 years in prison for using a gun to commit a crime and then they should add on more years for the robbery itself.

You were on earlier right after I posted this.

You're making a faulty argument. Apples and oranges. If a citizen, homeowner or business owner shoots a criminal in self-defense it's not a crime, it's justified (in most states). A criminal, simply by displaying a gun, has now escalated it to an armed robbery. He's already committing a crime by holding up the place (robbery), now he's made it much more serious by turning it into an armed robbery by using a gun in the commission of a crime. Either way he committed a serious crime and he most certainly needs to be punished. Just because he was wounded by his own stupidity doesn't give him immunity from legal punishment.

Just yesterday I read an article about a jury selection where the defendant (criminal) was in court in a bed. The jurors were being asked if they could remain neutral to the fact that he was in a bed for his trial. The reason he was in a bed: he was shot several times by a business owner after robbing a store.
