GM has tons of cash and huge real estate holding. The auto business side of GM is the one thats in the red.

The Big 3 had better figure out a way to get Americans to start buying their cars again. Or they all will be in the Crapper in a year or two!

Is it possible that we are not far off from 1 major us automaker? Gm, Ford and Chrysler all becoming one super company?

I would be surprised to see GM buy them since they are emerging from a crisis themselves, howver if they want to maintain the #1 status, buying mopar would increase their market share instantly.

I read yesterday that Hyundai is also interested in buying them. This would make a little more sense as Hyundai would love the dealer netwrok that Chrysler has and they already have some cooperative programs that they work on.

Over at GM Inside News that had a contest for people to design Chrysler vehicles that were based on GMs. All I had to say was "yuck."

I was told at work today, that MB was going to put MoPar on the block and sell it today. By days end.

MSNBC breaking news: Daimler Auctions Chrysler Group on E-Bay with
Buy-It-Now option.

DaimlerChrysler has taken the initiative and listed their troubled
Chrysler division on the auction site "eBay". Listed as a No Reserve
auction, with a "Buy it Now" option, the listing is the largest ever
placed at the on-line auction house.

The listing states:

"Large, somewhat profitable, American division of DaimlerChrysler.
Worked great in the past, but has had a few problems staying running.
Needs a hefty tune-up. Does not come with $14 Billion in liquid assets
shown in photos (removed in 1998 by Daimler to help streamline and
lighten the cash heavy laden wealthy organization). Recently lost $1.2
Billion (in potential sales), even though it sold most of its 2006 year
vehicles and posted records in several areas of sales. Although sucked
dry by its merger partner, may show potential in the future due to
superior engineering and design over current parent company.

Buy It Now and get free shipping of all unwanted employees to another
state, 2000 new engineers and designers (East Asian Nationals - our
choice of off-shore locations), and a autographed photo of Bob Eaton
with Juergen
Shremps lip prints on it. BIN price: $4.1B

THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION! Remember that all debts must be paid to
the seller within 72 hours of auction close or an undisclosed secret
local auto company like GM may be allowed a second chance bid... Oops."

Loved that eBay listing, Jackee... :D

This thing has me wondering, "What the hell are they (GM) thinking?" GM is hemorraghing cash on a weekly basis, is shedding employees as quickly as the UAW will let them, has been looking to Renault/Nissan to bail them out and now they're thinking they'll buy Chrysler? Yes by all means take on a few more billion dollars of debt. I guess they'd have less competition, but the competition that GM (and Ford, and Chrysler) need to worry about is Toyota, Honda, BMW, etc.
