After the recent DSR debacle, you would think NHRA would want to do that just to save face.
When EE had her Revive or what ever that sponsor was and was told you can keep it but don't expect any TV time.
Wait a minute, you're not supposed to actually read the story!Oh man... the Roadie is the Voice of Reason...
From the actual story:
Last week the first victim got sent home. Vis Viva, an existing advertiser in the official event program, was sent packing with the notice their full page ads could no longer be accepted.
Dan Pikarsky, Vice President of Attitude Energy Drinks, said the agency who publishes the program called him early in the year and he bought into the program well before the change in sponsorship.
“They told us they could no longer run our ad effective this weekend,” explained Pikarsky, who confirmed he’d signed a contract at the beginning of the program. “When we asked why, we were told the NHRA said we couldn’t run the ad anymore and they were notifying us that our ad would no longer be included.”
NOWHERE does it say that Vis Viva is no longer allowed to sponsor the team... Nowhere does it say that NHRA is chasing them off...
WHAT IT DOES SAY is that NHRA no longer will accept their advertising in THE OFFICIAL PROGRAM (makes sense to me- I mean, come on, the money that Coke gives NHRA for the title rights PAYS for the printing of the program...)
The energy drink companies will still be able to give out handouts and free samples in the pits of the cars they have their names on, which will see more hands than the official program over the course of the race weekend.. Really, when was the last time any of the majority of you has spent the five bucks to buy the "Official Program" that Vis Viva advertised in? Yeah, that many of you..
NHRA is doing the right thing by keeping it from being a PR mess for now AND THE FUTURE (imagine how hard it would be to get another title sponsor to bring their cash to the party if they knew that they would be competing against their direct competition in the publications they pay for?)
The car keeps its sponsorship, the advertising outside of the House Organ remains the same, and the title rights sponsor remains the big dog on the porch.. Nothing wrong with that.

Another story you have only heard one side of.
And you're right Steve, I should have said some.
