For fans: Your interest in watching NHRA 1/8 mile nitro racing? (5 Viewers)

Help me out here.
No schedule on IHRA.com
No May Nitro event on the MG website. (But the NHRA event is still on the site)
Saw a schedule today on FB with no mention of MG.

Where is this event info?

The thread on here Josh posted it

I went to the last 1/4 mile NHRA race at Norwalk. It took me probably 5 years to finally go to a 1000’ race, and I don’t attend the full weekend like I used too. I am not interested in 1/8 mile racing. Sorry, just don’t like it and never will.

It works where there’s no alternative. What is magical about 1/8 mile other than it’s half the traditional 1/4 mile? Not sure what the driver is to shorten to less than 1000 but if there were a good reason, why not 800 ft? I like 1000 ft and for me, 1320 adds nothing as a spectator. I think another post said the drivers asked for 1/8 mile in the case of IHRA? Strictly cost and parts attrition? Is that fuel drivers as well as others?

I agree. Often times local tracks are the nearest ones and most easily affordable to go to. Kanawha Valley Dragway was 1/8 but it was the nearest and about the only option. Pretty much 100% sportsman class, but we went often and enjoyed, lacking much of an alternative.

After it closed, there was no drag strips in the state. Made me appreciate it even more then.

But I do get the notion that 1/4 mile or even 1000 feet is preferable, esp for the pro categories. Hard to argue against that.

Not sure who said it but the phrase, "The crew chiefs will figure out how to blow them up in 1000 ft." should be addressed when discussing 1/8 mile racing.

To the knowledgeable racers here, what changes would be made to the TF and FC class cars to maximize an 1/8 mile track? Would it be just in the tune up or would certain parts have to be changed?
