Sugar Hill, Ga. , June 11, 2008 – The following are a few facts and figures surrounding Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team’s victory this weekend at the O’Reilly Midwest NHRA Nationals in Madison , IL . After qualifying sixth, Johnson defeated Mike Edwards, Greg Anderson, Warren Johnson and Jeg Coughlin to score his second win of the 2008 POWERade Drag Racing Season.

  • This was the 38th national event win of Kurt’s Pro Stock career, tying him with Funny Car standout Tony Pedregon (who also notched his 38th win on Sunday) and Jeg Coughlin for 13th in career victories among all professional classes.

  • KJ’s 38 Pro Stock career national event wins rank fifth among all time Pro Stock career wins, one behind fourth place Coughlin.

  • This was Kurt’s third national event win at Route 66 Raceway, tying him with Jason Line and Jeg Coughlin for the most by a competitor in the Pro Stock Car category.

  • This was the seventh time that Kurt and Jeg had met in a final round, with KJ preserving his perfect record against the defending Pro Stock Champion. Ironically, their most recent final round meeting prior to this past weekend came at this race in 2003.

  • Kurt has now won multiple national events in 11 of his 16 years in Pro Stock, complementing his 14-year streak of scoring at least one win per season, which is second behind John Force’s run of 22 years.

  • The win came in KJ’s 70th career final round appearance and third final of the 2008 season.

  • The drivers Kurt defeated in the last three rounds on Sunday represented a total of 12 Pro Stock Championships (Warren Johnson – 6, Greg Anderson & Jeg Coughlin – 3 apiece).

  • The win allowed Kurt to maintain the POWERade Pro Stock Championship points lead, which now stands at 36 points over Coughlin.

  • This was Kurt’s seventh win from the sixth position (in 25 career starts). Ironically, his most recent win from sixth came at this event in 2006.

  • This win was also Kurt’s 28th in a Chevrolet extending his lead for the most by a Chevy racer in the Pro Stock category.
Incidentally, ESPN2 will provide a special 20-minute repeat airing of Sunday’s final rounds tonight, Wednesday June 11 from 6:40 – 7:00 p.m. (ET).
