Fast Facts & Figures on Kurt Johnson’s Win at The Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals

Sugar Hill, Ga. , August 12, 2008 – The following are a few facts and figures surrounding Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team’s victory this past weekend at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, MN. After qualifying second, Johnson defeated Jim Yates, Mike Edwards, Jeg Coughlin and David Connolly to score his third win of the 2008 POWERade Drag Racing Season.

• This was the 39th national event win of Kurt’s Pro Stock career, tying him with Funny Car standout Tony Pedregon (who also notched his 39th win on Sunday) and Jeg Coughlin for 12th in career victories among all professional classes.
• KJ’s 39 Pro Stock career national event wins also tie Coughlin for fourth among all time Pro Stock career wins.
• This was Kurt’s fourth national event win at Brainerd International Raceway, tying him with his father Warren Johnson, Bruce Allen and Bob Glidden for the most by a competitor in the Pro Stock Car category at BIR.
• This was the sixth time that Kurt and Connolly had met in a final round, with KJ holding a 4-2 edge. In overall elimination round competition, KJ and Connolly are tied at 11 wins apiece.
• Kurt has now won three or more national events in 8 of his 16 years in Pro Stock, complementing his 14-year streak of scoring at least one win per season, which is second behind John Force’s run of 22 years.
• The win came in KJ’s 71st career final round appearance and fourth final of the 2008 season.
• The win allowed Kurt to move into second place in the POWERade Pro Stock Championship points, passing Jason Line. KJ’s performance also allowed him to close within 58 points of current points leader Greg Anderson with two races to go before the start of the NHRA’s playoff season, the Countdown to One.
• This was Kurt’s 13th win from the second position (in 55 career starts), which is the most from any starting position in his career.
• This win was also Kurt’s 29th in a Chevrolet extending his lead for the most by a Chevy racer in the Pro Stock category.
