I have to love it: "Forget what has been posted as speculation on other drag racing websites or message boards."

EDIT: typical of me, I forgot to say congrats to Ed. Good luck, Ed!

My opinion is that this really is happy trails...

good luck ace in whatever you decide to do. my best memory, sitting at indy watching him drive the miller car back towards the pits. only the ACE gets away with that! good memories

:(:( I knew this day would come. I am sad. :(:(
I had two favorite personalities in drag racing, LaHaie and Ace.
I wanted so bad for a championship to happen for him, Capps and the crew.

Ace is one bad hombre. Drag racing is a little bit less badass from now on.
Thanx Ace for the memories, enjoy your richly desreved time off. It was fun cheering for you and your teams.

This to me makes WAY more sense than the other post.

Many, Many Good wishes to one of the pioneer's of our sport!!

Ed McCulloch ..... My all time favorite driver and personality. (I won't be changing my avatar anytime soon) He gave me my first autograph around 1976. As a kid I couldn't listen to enough stories about "The Ace" on and off the track. Some of his off track stories are my favorites! :D I built every model and collected every piece of memorabilia that I could. Selfishly it's a sad announcement for me.

Best of luck Ace!! Thank You for all the memories and excitement I've been able to experience as a result of your career. Give em hell Ace!!

This is so sad. I'm really going to miss Ace! He's done so much for racing. Can't imagine not seeing him at the track anymore. I remember running into him & family at Cracker Barrel in Gainesville one year, and he was so nice.

I echo those sentiments exactly. Ace won the first race I ever attended in `77 and I remember getting his autograph when he drove the American Home Shield Arrow. He and Bonin were my two favorite drivers as a kid. I hated when Gordie was done and I hated when Ace stopped driving in `94 after a couple races in Jack Clarks Taco Bell top fueler. Enjoy your retirement Mr. McCulloch, your RRRRRRRRRevellution cars were bad ass and you were bad ass!!

I don't think he will be in retirement very long, his knowledge of not only tuning but driving will be needed again, either in the big show or in nostalgia.

I agree, but I thought the same about LaHaie, Armstrong, the Richards...they all seem to be more than happy in their current lives and hobbies outside of drag racing. Good Luck to the Ace in retirement.

I ran into Ace in the hotel restaurant in Englishtown and thanked him for being his own man... Whether at the ropes or in front of a microphone, Ace spoke his mind unabashedly - that is what I will miss most in the new corporate drag racing scene.

Congrats on your well deserved retirement, Ace, as has been said many times - you've certainly earned it.

I was bummed to read that; because here I thought the rumor was that he was going to the Michigan top fuel team...... then I thought about it, and remembered - well sh*t - he's already been there! :D Good luck to "EM" - who I will remember as the driver of the Miller High Life Oldsmobile Cutlass nitro funny car and also as Crew Chief of the American International Airways Top Fuel Dragster! :D
