A genuinely good guy has been out of a ride for a while now, it sure would be nice to have him back for the 2007 season and beyond.
Anybody know what's up with Don?
I spoke with Don the other day. He's been busy working with his father in their block business in Pittsburg.
Don and Anita also have a 1 year old son now, which I'm sure keeps him busy as well.
We do not have any plans on racing in 2007, but if something comes up, we'll be there.
I'll let him know that you asked, he always enjoyed the interaction with the fans.
The entire Lampus family was/is probably the kindest racing family I have met. Don's mother pulled me out of a crowd once, to bring my son in their pits for a candybar. While I waited for him to come back, Don came over and we chatted for a while. The rest of the weekend, they offered my family and I lunch, dinner....heck they'd probably have let me warm the car up if I asked
Some people overuse the word "Class", but it truly describe's them and I wish them well whether they return or not.
I'd sure like to see him come back too. Like others have said he's a real nice guy, same goes for his dad. I met them at Cordova one time and they talked to me and my dad for quite some time about their baja racing and how they got into top fuel. Genuinely great guys and I'd like to see them be able to come back out and run.
I hope he comes back sometime, Anita and Don are 2 of the nicest people you could meet in drag racing. Glad to read they had a son. I hung with them the finals of 2001.
This old thread caught me by surprise, but it made me remember a really neat person Don Lampus must be. He autographed an Action Collectible of his Top Fuel dragster for me through a friend who surprised me with the cool gift. Thought I would share it with everyone. Thanks Don! Hope you get back out to the track someday.
