VISTA, Calif. (January 10, 2008) -- Don Prudhomme Racing and Team Wilkerson Racing announced today that they will be forming an alliance for the upcoming 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season.
While Snake Racing will field a car in the Top Fuel category and Tim Wilkerson will campaign in Funny Car, the new coalition will create the ability for the two teams to share resources and discuss tuning decisions, while generating new opportunities for their sponsors.
“Tim has always been a really good guy and a solid competitor,” said Don Prudhomme. “I know he has a good relationship with (Snake Racing crew chiefs) Donnie Bender and Todd Smith and both teams have always been quick to lend each other a helping hand. For 2008, I wanted to strengthen the relationship between our teams and create opportunities for our dragster and Tim’s funny car program.”
Team Wilkerson Racing has been one of the few remaining single car teams on the NHRA circuit, while amassing five national event wins, including the prestigious U.S. Nationals. Wilkerson has the unique distinction of being the team owner and the talented crew chief while tackling the driving responsibilities, earning him high respect from his peers.
2008 will mark the ninth year that Team Wilkerson Racing will have the sponsor support from information technology giant Levi, Ray & Shoup, Inc. Headquartered in Wilkerson’s hometown of Springfield, Ill., Levi, Ray & Shoup is a global company known for its computer software consulting services and mainframe print management products.
Wilkerson looks to this unique alliance with Don Prudhomme Racing as the opportunity to take his program to the level enjoyed by many of the multi-car teams.
“I think this is a step forward for us,” said Wilkerson. “I already respect Donnie and Todd and thanks to Don Prudhomme we will enjoy access to technology and assistance that we never had in the past. I am anxiously looking forward to this relationship and the possibilities it brings to the team.”
This unique alliance will begin at the 2008 NHRA season opener, the 48th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., February 7-10, with Wilkerson in his beautiful Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Impala SS Funny Car and two-time (2002-2003) NHRA Top Fuel champion driver Larry Dixon, beginning his 14th season of competition as he climbs behind the wheel for the debut of the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Top Fuel Dragster.
