Dixon had Stage 3 Throat Cancer

I'll see your link, and raise you one Wikipedia entry:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohegan_people

From the article: The Mahican were historically based along the upper Hudson River in present-day eastern New York and along the upper Housatonic River in western Massachusetts. In the United States, both tribes have been referred to in various historic documents by the spelling "Mohican", based on mistakes in translation and location

The movie isn't titled Last of the Mohegans or Last of the Mahicans, is it?

There is a movie called "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter"....doesn't mean it's accurate.

It's no wonder so many have left this board over the years. Sometimes being an adult reminds me of 7th grade. Can we get back to supporting Larry with what he has been through??????

Glad to hear he is in remission, but there is a five year window, before he can claim to be cancer free.
I hope nothing but the best for Larry and his family.
I don't think he ever smoked.

Seems like a bunch of people have comedown with cancer in racing lately.
NHRA and treehuggers worried about spraying brake cleaner in the pits but ignore other possible poisons at the track....like the hot dogs!

Seriously, those who live on coffee and cigarettes survive and healthy individuals (like Larry) get sick.....

Breathing in a nitro car warming up seating the clutch might have something to do with it.
Clutch dust, chemicals etc.

I think we are seeing more and more that genetics play a bigger part in our overall health than one would previously believe. There are people who could smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day and live to be 80, and there are those who will never smoke and be dead of cancer at 50. Assuming everything else is equal (diet, environment, etc) the only answer is genetics. As we unlock DNA further and further we will see a paradigm shift in medicine to preventative care rather than reactive care. In 10-15 years, doctors will be able to tell you everything about your medical future after a simple DNA test, and act accordingly.

Cancer is not something I would wish on anyone, and like Don Schumacher said, our current treatments for the disease are barbaric. But Larry survived and his future looks bright. When he gets back in a car I have little doubt he will be successful. (see: Beckman, Jack)

We are dealing with advanced stage 4 (spread to liver) colon cancer in our house which has infected someone who has been working in a sterile environment for 35 years, never did any activities that would increase risks, and always ate healthy and exercises regularly. To look at her you would never know she was given six month to live 10 months ago. Taking life one day at a time. New generation chemo's and treatments are worlds ahead compared to 10 years ago, but there is still a long way to go. Prayer is #1 in our house.

Glad he is doing good and the cancer is in remission. It seems far too many people are experiencing this ... I pray for medical wisdom to researchers that they find a cure!

Sorry to hear this Randy. My dad outlasted the docs time line too. After losing him I have whole new understanding of what it really means to "battle" cancer. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I've often wondered about that myself. Nitromethane fumes choke me every time I watch a fuel car warming up.

It is the nitric acid in the fumes that is getting to you. I just looked up nitric acid and it is not a carcinogen or mutagen. However, any unburnt nitro in the fumes could be a cause for concern, as nitro is a known carcinogen. But, I'll take the risk of inhaling the fumes.
