Diving lessons?

Nope. Never said that. I was just giving everyone a history lesson since most of you weren't around in the early days. People who were here in the beginning know why none of the professional drivers or owners post here like they used to. And now you know.

Stuff like this: "Sounds like somebody got their feelings hurt. Your not going to pull any John Force fans to you with that attitude..." This goes beyond "opinion" and into personal, but that's my opinion.

Not to derail the thread, but Don may be up to something that may involve an addition to his team toward the end of next year by a nice young lady who has proven she can handle whatever is thrown at her, from sand to asphalt. If you watch the Lucas Oil TAFC/TAD Finals show on ESPN2 this Sunday you just might see her in the booth with Dave and Alan. I've known her dad and grandpa for 30+ years and she's a real sweetheart just like her sister and mom. That's all I can say right now. I'm sworn to secrecy. LOL

Flame on.

Wow, holy crap Batman, if someone thinks ( I know it's your opinion), that I was being just a downright scoundrel for saying anything possibly derogatory to his Majesty Don Shoe, then I may have to apologize for my sin and will seek repentance from my church leader. I pledge never to question him again since he is God to some people.
Again please forgive me!

Sounds to me like you support his calling out posters as Force lovers, but not fans calling him out when they question what happened.

Hey, nobody makes him post here. When he has overwhelming support, this place is a sanctuary. When he doesn't, he despises the place.

He can't have it both ways.

How many times over the years has Capps choked or gone up in smoke when the going got tough?
I like Capps but he is the best 2nd place racer ever.
Given the reaction time difference between TJ and Hagan during their run, it’s not like TJ laid down.
Yes, I know the crew chief can make the car go up in smoke at any time. But, if a chief purposely sabotaged a car, don’t you think something like that would leak out?
I seriously doubt if somebody like a Jimmy Prock would go to DSR if there was even the slightest possibility of him being told to take a dive.
I’ve been a Don Schumacher fan ever since his Stardust days. But, with that said, my favorite racer just happens to be whoever is lined up against any of the JFR cars.

Why do some people that this personal? Go the event, enjoy the time with your friends and family and take it for what it is.

Well said Vinny. I attended the event with my older brother, my 21-year-old son, and a good friend of mine. It was my 4th trip to Pomona but the first time for the Finals, and the first time to Pomona for my travel companions. I got to hang out with some great people I've gotten to know thru this site (Chris Cook, John Rogers, Greg Rice, Mike Veskovich, Luke Nieuwhof, Mike L Cornelius, and EUGENE GRAY!). I couldn't care less about any of the drama referenced in this thread. I couldn't care less about who won, or who might have gone down intentionally. I look at the racing as entertainment, and none if it caused me any physical harm so I don't care who won or lost. In the grand scheme of things I had a few beers, hung out with some great people, and got to smell some nitro.
My next-door neighbor is dying of brain cancer, having entered hospice care a week ago last Tuesday. My 86-year-old father was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia while I was in Pomona and entered a hospital with no chance of ever going home again. It appears to me there are far more important things to get worked up over than who might have intentionally thrown a race.

A rule of thumb I use when posting on this site, is don't post it here if you wouldn't say it to the person's face. Some people feel pretty big behind the keyboard knowing they will likely never see or talk to the person they are hammering away at. I know a certain amount of crap comes with being a big personality in the sport like the Don is, but irrespective of whether there was a conspiracy at Pomona, some of the stuff thrown his way is a bad look all the way around. I can guarantee you NONE of the posters here would call him a weenie to his face.

You can opine and disagree all you want, but in the end, all we have is our civility.

There always will be controversy in any competition. My comments don't mean sh3t to BIg Don, this forum is for everyone to express their opinion on a topic, yeah people are sometimes mean and others make joke of it, just human nature. I remember a few drivers and team owners come on but with facebook alone my friend Randy Meyer spends hours on there with no interest coming on forums like Nitro. Nitromater was a huge hit with all the advertising in the beginning but that wears quick. In my opinion it's still the best to discuss ideas that concern you. As long as the Mods keep it under control you will continue seeing me on here like it or not, at least on you know who your talking to.

Great point Chris. I've been reading this thread mostly in disbelief. Someone actually referred to Shoe as "weenie Don". Seriously? And comparing team owners' net worths. Why? We all have favorite drivers, but any real fan should at least have some respect for the team owners who make up the "big show". I think many here have no clue what effort it takes to race, even a bracket car, let alone a multi-car pro team. Randy is right in addressing how the racers have left this board. Early in the thread I'm pretty sure it was suggested that maybe Don would chime in. So he does. Now he must be guilty of something since he felt compelled to say something. Anyone else wonder why for a pretty big sport, this site only has a few people exchanging dialogue? I'm a fan of all the racers. These guys make sacrifices for the love of the sport beyond what most of us could imagine. So even if we disagree about or question a decision, let's at least discuss it with some respect to the parties involved.

And the owners should have some respect for the fans. Both who post here, and those don't.

Just because there is some questioning of what happened is no reason to come in here and accuse everyone of loving JFR and not caring about DSR. The start to his post is juvenile and doesn't come across as a team owner, but rather a pissy 4th grader. While we all need to remember who puts on the show, they too need to remember if fans don't go, there is no show for them to put on.

Don't insult fans or their intelligence, and they won't insult you.

I've had a couple of days to think about this thread and watch the TJ v. Hagan round a few times, as well as look at the summary of Funny Car at DRC. Granted I'm no expert, but I now think TJ and John Collins were going for it. TJ had a 0.062 light, coupled with the fact that he won in the right lane in the previous round and that Force ran a 4.044 right behind him tells me that the lane really wasn't that bad. During the TV broadcast it was said that Collins had it hopped up and they were going after Hagan, or something to that effect. I admit I initially thought that something was up based on TJ taking the right. I don't think there was anything going on with the run against Capps either, Tobler and Capps had a consistant car, but how many times does a mis-step happen and it puts someone on the trailer? Ron and TJ both had very good lights against Matt, 0.052 & 0.062. For whatever it's worth, I don't hate DSR, JFR, or any other team for that matter. I know diving has been around for quite a while, hell I remember Larry Minor trying to lose to Gary Beck at the Cajuns in '83, along with a lot of others that have since followed. I'm not sure what Don Schumacher has read, nor do I have any idea if he'll ever read this post, and personally I'd be surprised if he ever decided to return. Either way, I know I questioned the intent of his team regarding the Semi Finals, and I apologize for insinuating that there might have been some funny business. I had no skin in the game, so the outcome didn't effect me one way or the other. Congrats to DSR on doubling up on the 2014 Nitro Championships, enjoy the off season, and hopefully Pomona is here before we know it.

Things that make you go "Hmmm."

"Sounds to me like you support his calling out posters as Force lovers, but not fans calling him out when they question what happened."

I haven't supported any position, for or against (head scratch)...

"Hey, nobody makes him post here. When he has overwhelming support, this place is a sanctuary. When he doesn't, he despises the place."

You're right. No one makes him post here, but he does (did). The rest of your statement is amazing. Please provide proof that DS ever thought of this place as a sanctuary or that he despises it. To me that's another amazing over the top assumption by you.

From time to time DS was the only remaining team owner that came here to clarify rumors, etc., and many appreciate the fact that he is here. That tells me he lurks here because he cares about the sport in general and he cares specifically if one of his teams are being discussed. I don't see anyone else in leadership positions popping in here to clarify NHRA's positions, John Force's positions or anyone else's for that matter. I'm not defending him, I'm just stating facts.

Supporting the reason why the pro's were gone from this site long ago...I give you "Exhibit A" for your viewing pleasure.

i'm sure all the owners and drivers are mature enough to understand that when you run multi-car teams that dominate a particular
motorsport series; there will be situations (like pomona w/hagan) (and indy w/hight/force) where perception becomes reality in the eyes of the fans.......multi-car teams will generate drama; some positive and some negative....revel in the good, persevere in the bad.

I keep hearing about this bad lane, so i would love to hear what was so bad about a lane that had 4.0s all weekend...including the final round?

I don't think it's about a bad lane, it's about 2 cars that were getting down both lanes in dominating fashion and then suddenly turn to crap. The race is over Don got his money's worth so I say let it be. This thread has surpassed it's level of simple thinking.

I'm with PJ it time to end the count down

You mean kinda like Alexis and Tommy D did with a 4:02 and a 4:01 and then oop's? I can guarantee you that Alexis and Tommy D were not trying to throw a race. Maybe these cars are just a little more temperamental then some fans realize when you are trying to run those kind of numbers.;)

Eugene, sounds like you have awesome job, get to be around all the teams, and most races. I'm sure there's some boring moments but overall a lot of fun. I hope it works out for you for a long time.
