Court in testing

Just exactly where was the sun in relation to the finish line beams??...........LOL

Stout to say the least, Martin.

From what I hear, it's the eighth mile speed that validates the pass... That is MOVIN!!!

I guess she wasn't just acting yesterday after her loss to pop... She looked pretty fired up

That's a stout half track speed. What's the weather conditions there? I heard it was really windy today.

I think the track runs north-south... so it would be one heck of a headwind! Probably why it ran so good. Just like when Epler ran the first 300.

The track runs SWS, so there would have been a tailwind.

Tailwinds can unload the rear end (because of the dumptruck bed). A headwind, as mentioned in the case of Epler, pins the car down, allowing the motor to load up the clutch efficiently (downforce plants the tires, making it harder for them to break loose).

Head wind, tail wind, or breaking wind didn't matter much with that pass. Just plain stout!! That car has been back-halfing very well lately, and it looks like they got the front part of the run to go along with it.

That is interesting considering the winds out there today. I just got back, but when I left around 9am, it felt like the wind speed was 35 sustained. It was miserable. I'm surprised they still went after it.

Not sure I understand this...unless a 30MPH tailwind can unload the car at the hit, I can't see it making any difference. At half track, her car still had a net 245MPH wind pushing down on it. That's not gonna unload the rear end.

The track runs SSW to NNE and yes the wind was out of the SW sustained 20-30MPH with guests to over 50. When I flew out of Vegas at 2:30 PM we took off east to west and once the plane got off the ground the crosswind moved it a full plane width to the north. It was like something slammed it in the side. The wind must have had some affect on the run, but it was a solid run nonetheless. If it were Bonneville, they would have had to turn around and run the other direction and average the runs to validate. My brain isn't functioning well enough tonight to calculate how much power it takes to push a given drag coefficient through the air at 245 vs 275 MPH, but I'm sure it is significant. Also, Vegas is at 2000 ft. Altitude to begin with. Already easier to push something through the air.

I was talking about Mazur's comment about a tailwind. It's not as helpful as a headwind, but a well placed gust (especially in places like Vegas) can hurt performance more than help it. Mike Kern nailed it- a plane is a pretty big item to get shoved around, and yet, the wind coming out of Vegas has given a lot of veteran fliers a pucker moment. Court's pass must have been at a perfect time, wind-wise. The last time we raced at the Strip, a 12 mph crosswind at the tower was a completely different wind past the grandstands.

Man- the picture of Courtney on the .97- that car is PLANTED!!

Hooked up and haulin 8 feet in...
