Yes, congrats to them. Frey almost had me with his "The team down there high 5'ing" I thought they had won for a minute.

Yes, congrats to the Chrisman's on the good run! What's the deal with their clutch setup?

To every person who said good job. Thank you for everything. To every person who helped thank you again. Only took four years but we did it.

If Shoe had experienced any kind of problems, Chrisman would`ve gotten him, it was great to see them run as well as they did! I always appreciate watching them run when I`m in Pomona or Vegas...no clutch management system, no semi tractor trailer, just an old Chaparral and crew cab dualie set up.

No management anywhere behind the motor plate.

OK For those of us who aren't in the know. Can you please explain that.
I know that they use timers and such to faze in the clutch.

But what is the diffrence when you say "no management" dose that
mean there is only mechanical help?

Boy a 4.8? is really good then. It makes me think that would be a perfect way
to try and slow the boys down. No management behind the motorplate.

Great run.

I guess that means it's truely a cyntrifical clutch... the only thing that makes it apply is the weighted fingers on the pressure plate. "Lock Up" function is something that came about in the 80's when computers were showing the motor was running away from the clutch and not going 1:1 when they thought it was, or not at all. I think back in the day it started out the driver just pushed a button to activate it, and that was the only control. No progressive, just a lock up when they wanted it to. Some say that's part of the reason KB was so good in the mid 80's. AA Dale was one of the first to figure that out.

Makes you think back 20-25 years, and how busy the drivers could be..... Cut a light, shift, lock up button, and some had a manual fuel lean out. Billy Meyer even had a deal where if he spun the tires, he could press a button on the steering wheel to pulsate the rear brakes!!

I gotta tell you that my jaw dropped when I saw the run and the 4.87 came up on the board. I know how hard those folks work and how small the budget is. One little sneeze from the 'Shoes' car and he'd have been watching the next round on TV. Way to go guys!!!

It's simple. He just takes his foot off the peadle when he stages and all the levers come in at once. Everything is primary.

I'm wondering.....how do you get a 3-4 disc clutch to work without mgmt.?

They used multi disk clutches before they had mgmt. The flywheel/clutch stand is bolted to the crank. The flywheel has stands that come off it it. The "floaters" have notches on the outside that fit around the stands on the flywheel. As the crank turns, the floaters turn, (4,5,6 disk set-up it does not matter) the floaters all turn at the same time, at the same speed as eachother. The clutch disks have teeth on the inside of them, that fit in the groves of the input shaft. The clutch disks all rotate together as well. As the crank turns the floaters turn, and the friction between the floaters and the clutch disks them makes the disks turn, which makes the input shaft turn, and that's what makes the car move. The difference in the speed of the floaters to the speed of the disks is "clutch slip". Or Engine RPM to driveshaft RPM.

So is it the same clutch in a top alcohol or pro-mod car with different discs, I assume? Still have base adjustment and then "bolts" on the counter levers?

First off I need to spell pedal right. P-E-D-A-L.

The clutch is the exact same clutch found in any other top fuel or funny car out there. The way it is applied is just a little different.
