Steve Chrisman loses early; pleased with car’s performance (1 Viewer)

SONOMA, Calif. – There was no question Steve Chrisman was the underdog Sunday in his opening-round race against Tony Schumacher in the FRAM/Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway.

It was no surprise either that Schumacher – the No. 1 qualifier – left first and lit the win light in 3.842 seconds at 318.24 mph to Chrisman’s 4.092 at 283.61 in the Nitro Fish Top Fuel dragster. But for Chrisman, a part-time racer, it was one of the reasons he was here.

“I’m happy with the way the car ran this weekend,” he said. “The car went down the track. It was a major accomplishment just to qualify here because there were 20 cars entered. We qualified and got to play on Sunday.

”Now we are looking forward to going to Seattle for next week’s race.”
