Yo Bruce,

Thanks heaps for the links, I'm really liking this story so far.

"I remember a time when these guys ruled a little slice of the planet, and when they pulled to the starting line it was as if the entire universe was on 'pause.'"

Chuck is one of my all-time favorites. My brother and I ran into him and his wife Shelly at a casino in Las Vegas back in January '96 during the offseason. He was genuinely amazed that we knew who he was and were interested in talking to him. We talked to both of them for a good hour and they never acted like they wanted to get away from us. Later that year, when we were at Brainerd, we were near his pit area and when he saw us, a look of "where do I know you guys from" came over his face. The light bulb went on and he said "Vegas, right?" The first Funny Car in the 4's couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Now I'm really wanting to go and watch my Drag Racing 93 video. But it's 14 hours flight away :( Chuck was one of the best out there.

David Hapgood wrote a great piece. Good looking Bruce.

I remember that, I'm glad I'm not the only one who watched those videos and practically memorized them.

Very Good Story.
I got to see and meet Chuck the year that Whit was driving
his funny car at a match race at my home track, mid michigan motorlpex
in Stanton,MI.
Great Guy!!

I grew up watching Chuck and Gary at Epping. What a duo and always a class act. Put on a great show and really gave the big dogs a fight once he got funding. Hate not seeing him still competing!!

I just keep remembering Bezerko Bob announcing, "Put your hands together and at the count of three were all going to say, Chuckie, Chuckie, Chuckie....he loves that"

i was reading an interview with tim richards on time and he said the year chuck ran the first 4.99 in funny car and they finished 2nd in points, was one of his most memorable years because the did it on a budget of $250,000. thats incredible.
