A friend of mine in London says there are something like 80 different English accents. She can name someone and say "That's a Birmingham....", etc.

I think we, in America, stopped speaking 'English' a long time ago. We speak "American" I guess. I work for a Global business and when associates are here from other parts of the English speaking world, conversations can be quite humorous! :p

Okay, here's another non-US perspective on accents. It says I'm about 90% "Midland" accent, most strongly Western (apropo I guess). Surprisingly Boston came in 2nd - perhaps that's the vestigial British influence on Canadian English.

It's probably true - I of course, do not think I have an accent, however I remember years ago when my pen pal from Georgia called me and she drawled, "Gosh, you shore have a wild accent!" :)

mine was perfect - north central
even uses the phrase 'minnesota accent' to describe the accent.
grew up in iowa, could always hear the mn accent, thought iowan's
had no accent - now can't hear mn accent and iowan's
have a southern drawl.

The South (of course, Kentucky) ... it says most closely to big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas and I have a good voice for radio or TV! Can I put that on a resume'? :)

Results: "The Inland North"..... (I live in Minnesota)

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

I wonder if I took this test while being out of town (from a hotel room for example) if the results would be the same? The results could be completely based off of our IP addresses (geographical location) rather than our answers…..

I live in the Chicago suburbs and it was accurate to the Philadelphia region where I grew up.

I am in Vegas, and it pinned my accent to the South (where I grew up), so I doubt they are using reverse lookup on the IPs to determine our accents.
