I was wondering the same thing. Who is left out there that will put it in the mid -low 3.80 range on a consistant basis (3.7s when it's cool) that's not already taken??

all i know is it was great to see bruce litton @ brainerd again
and watch him barely lose with a 3.89 in the first round.
he wears lucas colors too; thought i heard BIR was the 1st of 4 or 5
back to back scheduled NHRA appearances this year?

That was a good race. Hats off to them guys. And it was nice meeting you, and sitting with you during the final rounds. It was cool to see your friend win in one of the sportsman classes.

After awhile, don't you have to start to looking somewhere else other than the crew chief? Not trying to be incendiary but they've been through their share.

Competing with AJ, McCulloch, Green, Okuhara, Corradi, Oswald, etc.. is very hard to do. Can you sneak something past those guys for a race? Sure.. But doing it to the point that it takes to win a championship is very, very tough.

this makes me think... maybe its not dickie[or anyone else] who is crew chiefing but maybe its the huge amount of talent they have to go up against that is the problem. has there ever been so many highly talented people running fuel cars??? these folks are putting the bar up very high. and when you have to jump in with them it might be pretty tough to get to their level no less beat them. Good point. Those premier teams have some of the best tuners that have ever tuned a race car. Outside of Al-Anabi and DSR, who are the crew chiefs that can compete with the aforementioned CC's on a weekly basis? Especially ones that aren't locked into a contract.

The definition of insanity comes to mind here: doing the same thing over and over yet expecting a different result. If you keep changing managers in a baseball team and get no success, you have to wonder is the problem somewhere else. Is it the GM, the on-field talent, the coaches, the scouting, the level of investment, the organizational structure, the culture, etc.

I realize that there are some variables here that can't be changed, for example there is unlikely to be another driver brought in for Morgan. But that doesn't appear to be the issue. He hasn't lost on a holeshot all year, his RTs look to be in the middle of the pack, along with his leaves first %, and so on. The most common phrase in the NHRA results when it comes to Lucas is "hazes the tires...".

Nonetheless, at some point you have to ask yourself, what is at the root of the issues here? And maybe change some part of the equation other than the crew chief...

Even though he had trouble with Johnny Grays f/c. I think Lee Beard would be the guy that could help that team go to the next level. He can tune a dragster, and he is a great team leader if he has full control of the team. But I doubt he would leave Don Schumacher, and I doubt Don Schumacher would want him to leave.
