ChampCar downtown Las Vegas April 6th-8th (1 Viewer)

...this is from April

I hope they greatly improve the streets downtown.
Between this (ChampCar GrandPrix), future events downtown (hopefully), and the improvements at LVMS I'm gonna be in motorsports heaven.:) Not to mention I drive up the road a little to Larry H. Miller's new road course outside of SLC. Might have to make a few extra trips per year to go visit family up there.

So you get TWO national events, Nascar, and Champ car? Maybe next year you can have an IRL race too? I'm envious as hell!

Yeah, it's not to bad. I just hope the open wheel guys have a good surface to race on so that they can put on a good show. I'm not a big fan of most street circuts, but racing is racing right?---and I hope they can get it right here in downtown Las Vegas. Monaco is the street circut exception--what's better than F1 in Monte Carlo (don't answer that):p
Long Beach isn't to bad either--but it ain't Monaco.

Hey Vince, I went to the 1st F1 race at Ceasars 25 years ago.

How did you like it back then Mike?
I wish I could've been here when F1 raced in Vegas or Phoenix... I'd rather see ChampCar on the Strip somewhere if it has to be a street circut. Maybe the city and organizers will surprise me, with a top notch surface & course to race.

Hey Naz, What is wrong with the Gold Coast, great track, great weather and plenty of talent walking around.

:D :D :D

NHRA probably already knew about this. They've been talking about moving datesi 07. As well known and liked Chris Blair is in Vegas I'll bet he has been on this for months.

I called Chris Blair and NHRA is running the following weekend tp avoid Easter. Champ cars are running on Easter weekend, DUMB.

In today's Las Vegas, this just doesn't make sense. Traffic is already horrible, imagine tying up the area around downtown for the races, and the setup and teardown. Running such an event anywhere on the strip today would be an even bigger traffic mess. It'd make much more sense to do something like this at LVMS. The facility is huge, parking is almost unlimited, and the event wouldn't put into place a major impediment to in-town traffic.

All of the casino/hotels benefit from large racing events. I worked the inaugural NASCAR race there. I made my room and car rental reservations the same day that race was announced. ...before the hotels heard about it, before they all doubled or tripled their rates for that weekend, and before every rental car in town was booked. It may have been the first time Vegas literally ran out of rental cars!

This would be something I'd be very tempted to go see, if it didn't look like (at least to me) such a logistical nightmare.

...and running on Easter weekend like Mike said, what a bummer. The organizers should've been a little smarter. I drove around downtown a couple days ago, went to the movies, but also wanted to scope out the area where the race will be held. Man it's going to take a lot of work to get it done (imo). I realize Oscar Goodman wants to bring people and money back downtown, heck he's been trying forever it seems like, but LVMS would have been the best place to have this. Not on the oval again, but like you said Bob, it's a huge facility... something could've been worked out at the Speedway.

If they want to improve downtown, they need to get rid of all the drug dealers and hookers down there first... what a disgrace.

Is this supposedly going to be a Grand Prix like Long Beach? I wonder if the Freemont experience will be part of the Course?:p

You can always be assured that NHRA will NEVER Compete with another series datewise. Plus, I'm sure 90% of the local media will go the Cart route.

One more thing to consider; since NHRA will want at least 4-5 weeks to follow another local race. There's a good chance the Spring race will be moved to May, just when it starts getting Good and HOT!

Congrats Vince! I know you're looking forward to it. BTW, spent the long weekend in Wrightsville Beach! A successful weekend!
Yep I'm looking forward to it...:D Right now I just want a Force win though. I'm looking forward to October as well, seeing Ashely in her funnycar with dad and Ron going down to the wire for the championship.

Wrightsville Beach... man I miss the good ole' days and I'm glad it was a successful weekend for you.:p

Joe, NHRA is running in Vegas the weekend after the champ cars. The champ cars are going to be VERY foolish and run on Easter weekend.

I guess this means F1 stays at INDY. Too bad. Champ car has been shooting itself in the foot for years. As far as running at LVMS, champ car can't handle high speed ovals. They get dizzy and cancel races when they try. The IRL couldn't draw enough fans out there.

Like I said, too bad it isn't gonna be F1.

Tony, nothin beats Albert Park (okay Monaco for sheer prestiege) especially the years we were doing skids on the main straight. That was unil that 'vette hit the wall and the fuelcar (Kirby) kicked a rod and oiled the track for 300 ft on the racing line.

Oh, plenty of talent there too but with our lovely weather (NOT) most have to cover up, with the exception of the promo girls

Gotta do Gold Coast Indy again soon though

Bob,

I wasn't suggesting they race on the oval at LVMS. In fact, that's the last thing I pay to watch! A road course on the roads at LVMS could be both fun to watch and involve some high speed action. The timing of the event would virtually eliminate using the drag strip as part of the course, but if you take a look at the entire facility, it would be excellent place to set up a major road race.
