Until they implement cost cutting measures they are going to price people right out of the sport, period. Major records for ET and speed are irrelevent at this point. When they pulled the plug on 1/4 mile racing it changed drag racing as we all knew it forever. It needs to be about having plenty of cars with safe and close racing...period. Without more cars, teams and new blood this sport will rot on the vine and become the IHRA before long. If the NHRA is the keeper of this sport, then the braintrust better pull that brain out of their ass and see where this train is heading. You can bring in new sponsors at a smaller dollar investment rather than to continue to lose the handful of larger dollar deals.
Nostalgia racing has much more pull now and the interest has more to do with the cars and drivers than the performance. It should be about a good show, not who has the biggest team, biggest purse and most impressive hospitality area. Yes, it is a business, but all businesses need to be able to grow and have a customer base or you have no platform....wake the hell up NHRA.
Hey, its $10k if you pass tech and roll down the track once during qualifying for the 16th spot. Hopefully NHRA will see the value in having the "leakers (Pedregon Bros. included)" show up and allow day of the event entries.
They had a small Lucas logo by the tree. All the other event signage, t-shirts and programs were labeled "NHRA Supernationals." Deal must have come so late that everything had already been ordered.
