BURGESS WINS FIRST ROUND AT NHRA SOUTHERN NATIONALS

COMMERCE, Ga. - One day after recording a personal best elapsed time, Roger Burgess won his first round match at the NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Ga.

Burgess recorded a 6.080 elapsed time with a speed of 238.85 miles per hour to eliminate Shelly Payne in the first round of Jegs Pro Mod competition. He races Raymond Commisso in Sunday's second round.

"Every round is a great round win," said Burgess, who is racing this weekend before his hometown fans. "We have a good car and a great crew and the car is driving very well. We'll just take it one round at a time and see how it goes."

Burgess car is carrying a five round winning streak thanks to the Gotham City Racing team's success in Houston. Interim driver Joe Baker drove the car to the event championship while Burgess was away on business.

Burgess entered today's first round of eliminations as the ninth quickest qualifier on the strength of his 6.048 elapsed time recorded on Friday evening.

He will serve as the lone representation for Gotham City Racing as teammate Mike Ashley, who qualified sixth, lost in the opening round of eliminations
