BURGESS REACHES FIRST CAREER FINAL ROUND
Hometown favorite enjoys extraordinary weekend of personal bests

COMMERCE, Ga. – Roger Burgess had an inkling racing in front of his hometown race fans would be a blast. Nothing could have prepared the Duluth, Ga.-based businessman for the level of excitement that came his way during the weekend of the NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Ga.

In one weekend, Burgess scored multiple personal best performances en route to his first career final round in NHRA Jegs ProMod competition. He even coordinated a Saturday evening fundraiser which raised a substantial donation for the Dream House for Medically Fragile Children charity.

Burgess was blown away by the incredibly positive weekend.

“What an incredibly special this weekend turned out to be from the start to the finish,” Burgess said. “From the first run we made on the car, the weekend was chock full of positives. This weekend was a testament to my crew. They gave me a consistently quick car all weekend. This was a very fun and gratifying experience.”

Burgess began the magical weekend on a positive note as drove his supercharged Corvette to a personal best during Friday’s first qualifying session with a 6.048 elapsed time at 228.48 miles per hour. He was the ninth quickest qualifier headed into final eliminations.

He scored his second first round win of the season by knocking off Shelly Payne in the first round.

Burgess overcame the odds in the second round as he knocked off the top qualifier Raymond Commisso. He also lowered his personal best a second time with a 6.025 elapsed time at 239.53 miles per hour.

He took lane choice into the semi-finals against Tony Pontieri. Burgess was incredibly quick off of the starting line with a .005 reaction time and a 6.119, 230.37 combination.

In the final round, Burgess maintained his torrid starting line pace but fell short in the final round against Eddie Ware.

The classic Corvette that Burgess drives has now won 7 out of 12 rounds in Jegs ProMod competition.
