Burgess takes provisional lead in Gainesville, Commisso at No. 16 (1 Viewer)

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 12, 2009) - Roger Burgess rocketed to the No. 1 spot in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge presented by ProCare Rx Friday with the only run to break into the five-second zone, while teammate Raymond Commisso grabbed the bump spot after two rounds of qualifying.

Burgess' field-leading salvo registered 5.993/243.55, the quickest run of his career and the quickest and fastest of the event thus far. Smiling from ear-to-ear, Burgess said, "that was a lot of fun."

"Al [Billes, Burgess' tuner] had the car 'hopped up' as he calls it, and we were able to record our first five-second run with me as a driver.

"The track was a little tricky today, as you can see by our other cars that were having a little bit of trouble here and there, but we'll get it figured out - we've got tomorrow still.

"As always, the NHRA Safety Safari did a fantastic job setting the track up, and the problem is always the first 60-100 feet - if we can get through there, we know we're on a run," Burgess said.

Burgess' R2B2 Racing teammate Raymond Commisso struggled on the first lap in the heat of the day and drifted toward the centerline in round two and had to lift, recording a 6.548/164.69 to land in the No. 16 spot.

Commisso said, "We'll be alright. We're going to make a soft hit tomorrow to be sure we get further up into the field. Once we're solidly in, we'll hit the Saturday Night fights and then finish things up on Sunday."

Qualifying concludes with one final round scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Eliminations are scheduled begin at 4:30 Saturday evening and conclude Sunday.
