Could this bike, hiding in the back of the DSR pits today in Pomona be next year's Buell Killer.

Why hide it, NHRA will kill it before it happens anyway.

What did some say? 6.80's are a liability on Pro Stock Bikes, so they slowed the Suzukis (and Buell's) down!
Suzukis got slaughtered in the rule books when Harley took over as the Official Bike of NHRA. However you look at it, they have no chance of winning on the tour. How many can remember even just 5 years ago when on an equal playing field, the Harley's couldn't get out of their own way much less qualify. Trust me, I'm not knocking an American product, what I am knocking is that Harley's bought there way into the rule book, so much so that it is not even a true competition.

OK, Harley's are kicking everyone's rear end right now, but I also remember when Suzuki's were the only bike out there that were competitive.

Here's a link to the qualifying results for the Brainerd race of 2000. (Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the final results.

So..........
........this was better?

For my own part, if one brand is going to dominate, I'd rather it was an American brand.
:D

Like the Suzuki fans used to tell the Harley fans back then, "So come up with a better combination!"

In any event, any cycle enthusiast will tell you we're watching technological dinosaurs battling it out.

If it is I find it hard to believe that it would be out in the open for all to see.......

Well--IF you or I could build a bike from scratch --and get it approved--
AND you had Xray vision to see inside
AND could tell all the measurements to copy off an untested piece
AND had a full bank of CNC machines
AND could design the F.I. software without testing
think you could have one running + making at least 360hp by next Gainsville?

In plain site is plenty safe at this point.

David, my friend, I'm gonna have to take exception here--this may be splitting hairs, but in my school teaching days, I worked in a Kawasaki shop in the summer and eventually became a Certified Kawasaki Service Technician. Yeah, I know, big deal! But here's some food for thought--the Kawasaki and as far as I know (after the merger) the Suzuki 4 wheelers are all assembled here in the US, with some components shipped from Japan and some fabbed or sourced here. Many of the 4 wheelers are available in identical Kawasaki or Suzuki badging (shades of Mopar). The Jet Skis are all fabbed and assembled here and the engines are shipped from Japan for them. The Kawasaki plant in Lincoln builds ATVs and watercraft. They have the equipment for fabbing the watercraft hulls in house there. The ATVs are assembled in Lincoln, and the engines for the entire Bayou and Prairie line are assembled in Missouri. All of the cruiser bikes, (Vulcans, etc) are at least partially fabbed and totally assembled in the US.
The only Zook or Kawasaki product that is totally fabbed and assembled in Japan is the KX and RM lines of motocross race bikes--and they are the only Kawasaki and Suzuki products that have maintained total anynomity from each other. The KX and the RM share NO parts. The GSX-Rs and the ZX crotch rockets are for the most part their own bike, but do share some parts like pegs, bars, in some case wheels, etc.
I believe the Harleys (like the V Rod for instance) have a motor that is produced in Germany, but I think the frame, etc is fabbed here.
Funny thing happened. One of my 100% All American Harley Jap Bikes are Junk friends (and we are truly good friends) asked if I would clean and adjust his carb for him. He has a Sportster. He brought the carb from his "all-american" bike over to my garage and handed it to me and I started laughing--the stock all-american Harley sportster came with a Mikuni carb!:D My apologies my Minnesota friend, I didn't mean to preach at all and got way too long winded with my rattling on! I won't post for the rest of the day--I think I used up my allotment of characters!

I agree 100%. However, my point is, Gann for instance came up with a better flowing Suzuki head and NHRA squashed that. Everyone has abandoned the Suzukis (which is what NHRA wants) because they keep rewriting the rules to make them non competitive every time their "Official" bike get's one upped.

Harley didn't come up with a better combination. They lobbied NHRA to give them a spot where they could be competitive (since they could do nothing in AMA road racing) and NHRA did. As usual, NHRA went to the extreme and lopsided things. We needed parity as I was bored with seeing 47 Suzukis, 1 Kawasaki and (on occasion) some poor unknown Buell rider who brought a knife to a gun fight, try to qualify. But they need to keep working to find the correct balance of power in the class.

I wouldn't say they shouldn't have been allowed to run but certainly they shouldn't have been handed a bunch of advantage.

There are still afteraffects of Oldsmobile being the official car in the Super Stock ranks.

Why don't we just name the "Buell" and "Hardly Davidsons" something a little more appropriate.....like Mazak or Haas.

Sorry but not everyone wants to see lawnmower-sounding rice rockets.
Then they should go to the All Boat-Anchor Drag Racing Series where they belong. If it wasn't for the NHRA handing the V-twins advantage after advantage (I still haven't seen a Buell on a showroom floor with scoops that big!) they still wouldn't be qualifying for the field. The NHRA should have allowed Gann's cyl. head, not dicked him and his family over after spending considerable time and money on a head they were told they would be able to run.

the bikes are pretty even; i mean the playing field is fairly even. You know why the harleys do well its because they have the best two riders in the business. Forget the riders how about the bikes, not even close to aerodynamic. They win because they are that good.
