High Gear Cost Rivas Win at Indy

Chris Rivas and his Torco Race Fuels Buell were looking for their first National event win going into Indy this past weekend.

Running very consistent numbers during qualifying all three days, Rivas qualified his Buell in the fifth position for the start of the U.S. Nationals Monday race.

Having to run Angelle Sampey first round, Rivas knew that it would be no easy task. Leaving on and outrunning the former NHRA Champion, Rivas would advance to the second round at Indy.

Having to now face his Torco teammate, Matt Smith, Rivas knew he would have to be killer on the tree. Cutting an incredible light it would look as if Rivas would beat the point’s leader until his bike wouldn’t shift into high gear, forcing him to lose the round.

“It just wouldn’t go into gear,” said Rivas. “This is three times this year that this bike has not gone into high gear. Matt has problems with his bike in second and I have problems with mine in high. We definitely have to get it figured out. We have had a great bike the last few weeks and I can’t wait to get back at it in Memphis.”

Rivas holds on to his ninth position in the POWERade points.
