Looks like some of my postings have made it over here. Any information I pass on is straight from Brendan.
I just talked to him again a few min ago, and the swelling has gone down around his eyes where he can finally see again. Nothing major,, just some typical trauma. He did say that the first guys down to him in the sand trap seemed to be a bit lost on what to do, as if they have never seen or been around anything like this. And it is apparernt that a ball might have been dropped with regards to having the fireguys briefed and prepared for such an incident. No doubt, this is being reviewed and will be prevented in the future.
On a lighter note, Brett Johansen, Tom Shelar, Walt Stevens, Troy Green, and the rest of the Mastercam/Silverthin gang paid our boy a visit yesterday. No such visit would be complete without some appropriate gifts; Sesame Street Pampers, eyebrow pencil, fake eyelashes, oven mits, and burn cream in the form of BBQ sauce.
Hopefully he will get released today. He said he feels fine, is without any pain, and hasn't needed any pain meds. This is all good, and the safety equipment did it's job considering the severity of this fire. When the blower lifted, it vaporized the intake manifold; it was no longer around. That let 14 qts of oil to come out from the top of the motor, and that is what really created the fire that got him; not the initial fireball from the explosion.
