Saw today on Instagram that Dean Dubbin is driving the “Funster” this weekend in TAD.

Did this car ever make a pass? I see nothing on NHRA Detailed Results or Qualifying Order. I do see Dean on the Entry List.

Not in competition. I was told he was going to be allowed to make “exhibition” passes at the end of the class. It’s not currently legal. . Not sure if they have tried to make a pass or not.

They are not likely to change the OD. Del wants to try to run a restrictor plate under the blower. It’s been in the plans all along, they just need to test it.

The problem with this combo is that it will never front half very well. So it’s always going to back half better than the other combos. Del thinks a restrictor will kill 10-15 mph off the top. It might gain a little in the front, but not a lot.

Why wouldn't it front-half very well? Not a challenge; I'm just curious as to why not. And unless a car was peddled in the front half I've never heard of any car in any class gaining 72mph in the back half except maybe one of the jets.

And can somebody explain this? I'm not an expert by any means when it comes to TAFC but I'm confused. TAFC minimum weight is 2300 pounds. The new supercharged nitro combination is limited to 85 percent and 1.17 to 1 blower overdrive. The cubic inch max is 465. They're allowed to run 14-71 Roots superchargers. They are limited to one mag and a 21 GPM fuel pump. And yesterday Del Worsham's car ran 286 miles per hour.

Nitro percentage is unlimited; run 100 percent if you so choose. Blower overdrive max is 70 percent. They too are limited to one mag and a 21 GPM fuel pump. The only difference I see is that most nostalgia cars use 2-speed planetary transmissions. And the speed record in that class was set by Jon Capps at 261 miles per hour.

So why would Del's car be 25mph faster?

Del's car is not limited to a 21 gpm pump. I drove a car with a pretty similar combo in it about 10 years ago and we basically ran it like an a/fuel car. Low RPM, a ton of primary weight and let it load and go. We spun the blower a little faster, because we had an old clapped out Littlefield 14-71 on it, but still only about 30 over with a 60 gpm pump. We ran mid 5.50s over 270 without ever having to lean on it. The only management we had on it was an MSD grid. Combo will go 5.20s @ 290 without a problem.

It doesn’t front half because of the lack of overdrive it doesn’t make the torque to get the car to move.

Some of your stated rules are wrong. It has to weigh 2650 lbs, and doesn’t have a fuel pump limit. Max of 500 cubic inch.

When comparing to a NFC, the main differences are- the blowers are MUCH more efficient, and the bodies are much more aerodynamic. Plus the big pump will feed it much more fuel.
