Big Changes coming to Pro Stock

A return to the race on Sunday buy on Monday is just what the Dr ordered . Pro Stock Fields have falling off bad as well as fans . They get up and leave in droves to the pits . It is after all the big show . Now if they would return to stock suspension how much engine work would that require ?
Race on Sunday Buy on Monday sounds magical to me . I'll take my Super Camaro in Hugger Orange please .

Maybe that is another way NHRA can emulate NASCAR, by giving all the teams shocks when they show up on site, and require factory pick up points for the suspension. Would slow the cars down initially, but it would save everyone a ton of money. A little more stock creeping back into Pro Stock, I like it!

I don't know Chris they will have rules already on how car will be built but I don't want them to take away from creative minds of the crew chief, don't want cookie cutter cars like Nascar where you have .ooo difference between 1st and 16th that's why it's boring to some people now. These cars are going to be expensive anyway.

If we're talking "show" and we're talking rule changes, can we have a wheelie bar height spec, and get these cars to be a little more interesting when the leave the line? Please?

I REALLY love the Pro Stock class, even as it is. But there definitely needs to be some change, that's for sure. I love this concept, but my initial reaction was if they're looking at allowing all these different combinations to run, we'll be right back to consistent factoring needing to be done. That's one thing I enjoy about Pro Stock now. Everybody is on the same playing field with 500" @ 2350. Then again, I don't know enough about the new performance cars to know if my suspicions are accurate. Will all the cubes be the same? Will they still maintain a flat minimum weight rule? Is it ONLY going to be for the supercharged versions of these new muscle cars?

Even if it does turn out to be several different combinations running against each other, with constant complaining about certain brands having an unfair advantage, I think I have still turned the corner on this and will support it wholeheartedly. After all, multiple combinations hasn't seemed to hurt participation or interest in Pro Mod.......

I wonder how many engine builders and carburetor specialists are not happy to hear the news on the changes coming for Pro Stock.

Change is inevitable and it may make Pro Stock popular all over again and let's hope that is the case.

There's a part of me that feels for the engine builders, but not so much for the carb guys. For as long as carbs have been passed by with technology, they should've seen this coming a LONG time ago, despite the fact that NHRA has been so slow......

Snooooore....oh....excuse me I thought this was NITROmater!! Guess its time to get up and go to the concession stand and little blue room.

And the Oshawa, Ontario built Camaro! And the Michigan assembled Mustang but the engine and transmission come from Windsor, Ontario! And the Brampton, Ontario built Challenger/Charger!

Meanwhile, nearly a million Camrys roll off the line in Kentucky every year out of 95% domestically sourced parts (only the electronics come from Japan). But those are Toyotas, they can't be 'Murican. Only them cars built in Canada are 'Murican!

I say let anyone in who wants in.

Don't forget the Tundra and Tacoma are made in Texas

whatever changes are on the horizon for PS, make sure they carry their front wheels, same as PS of yesteryear and
the late model st/sst of today.......am fearful they will not if using same chassis.
i'd rather watch a late model st/sst carry their wheels to a 8-9 sec. run than watch the present version of PS.

I think NHRA has an open book to change pro stock into real pro stock. The class as it is has no fan base. By changing it drastically they could only be offending a hand full of people. I for one, have felt for a long time that pro stock should not be a pro class, and should have been replaced at national events with pro mod, if you have to have a pro door car class.

However, we have entered into a new, and I might say, the real muscle car era. I mean, my wife drives a 556 hp daily commuter, with a warrenty. That was un heard of "back in the day". NHRA should certainly embrace these cars, Cameros, Mustangs, and Challenger / Cudas. If Toyota, Nissian, and Honda want to play, they need to offer 500+ HP street cars.

This could turn into a class that the fans don't leave the stands in droves when they run.

Yer right, todays PS is just a jr. PM

There has been a lot of talk about P/M compared to P/S well I don't think they are close. Look at what these people have done, they have a 500 cu in motor with two carburetors no turbos, no supercharger and have got it to run 215 mph at 6.4 sec, that in it self is an amazing feat. Add the special design cars and they are safely able to get down quarter mile. I have said on here before that they should go back to stock roof and guarter panels to bring back the stock appearance but do it in manner to maintain chassis they are using now. You have be careful to make sure these cars are safe at those speeds, our friend Larry Larson said he could get his stock body Nova to run 250 mph but he said above 200 mph the car starts having handling issues so he won't attempt it. What I'm saying I hope they have meetings with the builders of these beast and make sure transfer is done to everyone's agreement.

Win on Sunday buy on Monday, don't they limit the number of these factory race cars they build and don't the factories have to meet some over all mile per gallon quota? So how many high horse power cars would they be able to build?

I really hope these changes to Pro Stock happen. They should've switched to EFI two decades ago, and a return to factory roof and quarters is greatly needed. I'm kinda torn on power adders. A part of me would like to see Pro Stock remain all motor, but then again most car companies have turbos and superchargers available throughout their lineups. And if you allow turbos and s/c, do you allow nitrous? It'll be interesting to see what kind of proposals they come up with for bodywork. I don't mind some alterations here and there, but not so much that you have to use your imagination to see a Camaro or a Dart. I'm not sure how you would legislate a wheels up launch, or even what the qualifications would be. Also, what would you do if say Enders didn't hang the front end 3 ft. off the ground? throw out the run? What if that run decides whether or not she races on Sunday? Can you really justify a DNQ because someone didn't emulate WJ's '85 Olds Calais? It doesn't really make sense to dump the current chassis in favor of a factory showdown car, otherwise just end the class and go run a factory showdown car. I'm sure the nitro fan boys would love that, although I'm not sure why they're commenting about Pro Stock, or any other category for that matter since all they want to do is spend their hard earned money to go stalk John Force. But hey if you wanna pay $60 and up to stand around and watch John Force scribble and dribble all over you, have at it.

The factory showdown cars are limited. I don't know about Ford and Mopar, but GM is 69 COPO Camaro's per year.

For those who remember and were in the stands to witness it, what was more exciting to watch...1970's Pro Stock or the Pro Stock race at the national event last week?

If they are going to call it Pro STOCK, make the word STOCK mean something. IMO Pro Stock cars now are just slow funny cars.

I vote for the 1970 Pro Stock show for sure

Don' shoot the messenger it's just my opinion.
