Like many others, I'm surprised it took this long.
For all of those thanking A-B for their years of sponsorship, you're thanking the wrong people. Those people took the money and ran. It took Inbev just a matter of months to bail out, probably just as quickly as they could get their lawyers on it. Mr. Brita (head of Inbev) told everyone here before the buyout was approved that he truly admired A-B's marketing (especially sports) and not to expect any significant changes.
From here at ground zero (St Louis) it's getting increasingly ugly. Inbev does not look to be a good steward of the Budweiser name.
In the last month of so, they've:
Informed their suppliers that for the privilege of doing business with them (and since Inbev was in Europe and it's really complicated to get the money back over here (!) ) all invoices would now be paid a minimum of 120 days out. Note: beer wholesalers still need to pay their bills promptly. And my bartender didn't buy it when I told him I'd pay him 4 months from now for the Select he served me yesterday...
Decided that the "born on" date isn't so important after all and are beginning to remove it from a bunch of their brands.
Yeah, that's the quality that A-B was known for.
Plus, some wonderful people who worked in Motorsports Marketing for many, many, years were simply told, "See ya!".
In the interest of fairness, I should mention that I worked for A-B back in the day.
