Someone mentioned NHRA management and Bentleys in another thread.

I was at an NHRA National Event (Dallas/Ennis, I think) and spied a gorgeous burgandy Bentley Continental GT in the pits, parked in the shade (not an easy thing to find, around there.)

It had a California personalized "vanity plate" that read "MGM-1".

I wondered at the time if it belonged to a racer, but decided that as much as it costs to race nowadays, that probably wasn't the case.

I've thought about that several times since, but still have no idea who owns that beauty (can you tell I lust after one of these things???) I might as well want the planet Mars...

Anyone have an idea of who might be the proud owner of that automotive icon???

They have a high-performance model of that "Continental GT" that will run a tad over 200 for the people who ar not satisfied with the regular model's 190+ top speed...

Thanks for any information...

Bill, in Conway, Arkansas, where you don't see many Bentleys... :(

NHRA President, Tom Compton supposedly owns a Bentley but I'm not sure how the "MGM-1" plates would fit him.

How many years ago did you see this? Was it during the same time Doug Kalitta had MGM as a sponsor?

I'm quite sure it was confirmed on this website a while back that Tom Compton does NOT own a Bentley. He was seen driving one that belongs to a friend of his.

Don't take away the haters fuel.

I'm no hater, Greg. I just tried to answer Bill's question. If you read my original post, I said Compton supposedly owns a Bentley...... I have no clue what the suits from NHRA drive, nor do I care!

Wasn't there a funny story from last season with Jason Line, Alan Reinhart and a Bently at Indy??? The owner was ceo of ________ I want to say mattel but I am likely way off. Anyway could be the same car.

California plates in Dallas . . .

Mike Manners, a top dragster driver turned TAD driver . . . who I think won that event, drives either a Rolls or a Bentley with a plate very similar to that . . . but I think it is a Texas plate.

He lives nearby in Willis, Texas and is a great guy to talk with. He still has that wonderful English accent and he is not scared to drive anything (I always asked him to try and miss my wife's dragster with his BAD turned T/D when we ran each other in top dragster).

He had a homebuilding company named Royce Homes that has been an SEC registrant for some time . . . I think he said he sold the remainder of his minority stake summer before last. Great timing!

Anyway he has a great story about how he named the company . . . the Royce comes from the Rolls Royce brand of automobile.

I'm not certain of Mike's middle initial, but I'd bet that might be his car. He definitely has the means to afford such a ride.

Brian O'Keefe asked, "How many years ago did you see this? Was it during the same time Doug Kalitta had MGM as a sponsor?"

It was in 2006 or 2007 at Ennis. I am not certain of the year, but I am certain it was one or the other. Most likely 2007.

I am not sure about the "California" plates; could have been Texas or Nevada, but I don't think so.

I AM certan about the letters: "MGM-1"

Thanks for all the posts. I just figured such a high-profile, GORGEOUS car might have a "following."

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous... and the other one for a Bentley Continental GT! 2008 Bentley Continental GT Picture Gallery

The first 2 people I thought of when I read this and he said it was in Ennis was Tommy Lipar who owns Josh Hernandez's Dr Moons Rage Pro Mod or Mike Manners but they would both have TX plates I'm sure. So dont know.

Jeff is right; it's Mike Manners' car. I just came from the Div. IV points race and I saw the car in question (drooool...)

I was in error on two counts, for which I apologize.

The license is indeed a Texas plate, and the "vanity" portion says "1-MGM," not "MGM-1."

It's easily the best looking car I have ever seen, and is disarmingly fast...

a combination that's hard to beat for only $220,000.00.... sigh...

I made a point to find Mike in the pits Saturday in Ennis. He has my old Super Comp #, 4655 and I asked him if he was done with Super Comp now that he is running the A Fuel car. At first he told me that he sold his SC car, but didn't say he was gonna give up the number, then corrected himself and said that he will be back with, get this, a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow with a blown Alky motor for Super Comp. As if his last beast of a Super Comp car wasn't enough, I can't wait to see this one. Super nice guy, hated to see him not make the show.
