Missed a connecting flight coming back to AZ from London, and Delta shipped us off to the Fairmont Inn in Salt Lake City at 11PM. I travel for a living, so I at least had my toothbrush and a change of skivvies and socks in my carry-on.
After 14 hours of plane tourture and NOT winding up in my bed at home as planned, I was pretty pissed, as well as exhausted, so I climbed into the sack and set an alarm for 6:30AM. As I mentioned, I travel a lot- 180- 200 days a year either on a tour bus or a hotel room, all over the world- I shake the sheets looking for the big critters (when you find a scorpion in your bed, you have tendancy to check EVERYPLACE, EVERYTIME after that..). So imagine my disgust to wake up an hour later to find myself staring eye-to-pincer with one of these nasty little buggers on my sheets. And not just one- seems that they were having a frat party underneathe the matress pad. Just when I thought I couldn't be more pissed about the airline not getting me to my final destination, then I have to deal with this crap. The girl at the front desk was completely UN-sympathetic, stating that their rooms are regularly sprayed for bugs- until I showed her the little gathering taking place in my room on my phone video.
What got me is that I have been in everything from 5-Stars to No-Stars, and I hadn't run into these bugs before en masse- this epidemic has just exploded this year in hotels and looks like it's gonna get worse. Do yourself a favor and re-make the bed before you snooze
