I was talking to my dad this morning, who lives in Avondale, AZ, and he said there's a nice article about J.R.Todd in their paper. I'm glad to hear that, I'm surprised the media hasn't given JR more attention, especially since this is Black History Month.

Actually a little history-back in the sixties, when the AA/GS cars were as big as the Nitro Funny cars are today, 2/3's of the Stone-Woods-Cook team were African-American. And that is just a start. In the late 40's and early 50s, the Bean Bandits out of San Diego had members of diverse ethnic groups. The thing we should be proud of in terms of drag racing is just how long a tradition drag racing has of minorities doing well and I think we should emphasize that. People like Melanie, Ashley, and J.R. are not starting traditions, they are simply carrying them on. To paraphrase that country song, drag racing was diverse before diversity was cool (at least in the corporate world).
