AUTOWEEK.com again: Randy Couture Pro Mod crash (1 Viewer)

I like Susan's article. I have said many times it looks easy from the bleachers "I could do that" anyone could go just as fast as the car will go if they keep the pedal down and it go's straight, when thing go wrong that makes the difference between a driver and a person along for a ride. At OCIR a young lady drove her boy friends dragster and it went straight and ran good, some of the ladies in the tower said she is good. I said JUST wait the next run she hit the guard rail and never drove again.

Another situation a young gentleman was trying to get his top fuel license and made appox. 20 runs and did not meet the speed required for a license. his dad called NHRA and told Bernie Partridge that I refused to sign his license. Bernie told his dad if Sutton won't sign it then he is not ready for one. I told the driver who wanted to run the March meet if he goes fast enough there on a test run I will sign it. On his first run the valve cover was leaking oil on the tires just before the lights the car went on the side and it was facing me at the finish line. Bernie came down to the crash site (little damage to the car) and he said Sutton you were right, I said no I am signing his License now he said WHAT I said I had told the driver if you ever feel you are in deep 💩 and there is nothing you can do PULL THE PARACHUTE. The car was on it's side and I saw the driver reach and pull the parachute and the car came back on 4 wheels.

terrible to have two firey incidents within days of each other. r. couture's and the top sportsman corvette @ hebron.
points made in susan's article, as well as larry's comments are more than true, but also the unpredictable nature of this sport can
bite you at any time, in so many different ways. the incident at hebron definitely revealed the track officials ability to respond.
...... most of all there are two drivers, who will recover, thanks to mandated safety equipment.

What's that saying?
Just because you can afford it, doesn't mean you can drive it.

In this case I definitely believe he should've spent some time in something less finicky.
Or a less powerful engine. IDK what his background is as far as driving his whole life.
Muscle cars, or something that needs attention when getting after it.
Hated to see it happen, fortunately he can now make his choice to continue or stop.

And if that is the benchmark, how about no one can buy a Hellcat without 10 years of driving experience? No one under the age of 30 can drive a Porche or Lambo without 5 years of Pro Karting track time?
Money and lack of fear make strange bedfellows...
😁

When the Hellcats came out, in my area we had 3 separate multiple fatalities. Half where Crash & Burn. 4 in one car beyond recognition.
How many 18 yr olds died on Crotch Rockets but everyone gasp at the thought of that kid in a Vette.

Glad e appears to be OK and sorry to see a beautiful car destroyed, looked like a 30's style body on it. Wonder who his advisor was and who was willing to sign off on his license? Not everyone is a Del Worsham and ready to jump into a big dog ride with little big horsepower experience.

When Del got licensed (and Billy and Jeb as well), their cars had less horsepower than the current crop of ProMods...
