AUTOWEEK.com: Grubnic on speed

Might be an MPH or two left in it but why bother chasing it. 341.85 should be fast enough, no? Grubnic himself explained how hard it is on the engines to push them to that point. You've got tires on the ragged edge. A catastrophic failure with either one is a 6-figure mistake and dangerous for Brittany too. Might be some ET left in it....Kalitta went 3.62, after all. Focus on that.

Which is why I mentioned focusing on ET. Grubnic says that all the time. But Brittany's E1 340.82 was paired with a 3.69. Langdon, Brown, Kalitta and Millican all had better numbers down low and had she been paired with Kalitta instead of Zetterstrom would have been train-ridden and sent packing. Clay Millican ran 3.628 7 years ago with a trap speed of 322mph; Brittany (current ET record holder), 3.623@331 six years ago.

Big speed is fun...it excites everybody; gets us lathered up. Who doesn't like 341mph. But like you said since winning races is the name of the game it doesn't mean all that much.
