AUSTRALIAN OUTLAWS CHAMPION TO MAKE COMEBACK FOR SUMMERNATIONALS

Reigning Australian Supercharged Outlaws Drag Racing Champion Daniel Reed from Queensland ’s Reed Racing team will be making one last appearance in his Title winning Altered before it is taken by its new owner after this weekend's (15th–16th February) Summernationals at the Western Sydney International Dragway.

Wearing his number 1 plate for the first time this season, Daniel has had to sit out the year due to a busy work schedule as an engine builder for the highly successful V8 Supercar team Triple 8 Racing.

However he was quick to accept the offer of making a one off appearance in the bracket he won last year to assist with the transition over to the cars new owner.

Although not vying for back to back Championships, Daniel still has as much hunger as ever behind the wheel and is hoping to give the car a fairytale farewell victory.

“I can’t wait to have one last competition in my Altered, I have so many good memories of this car including winning the National Championship so it is going to be sad to see it go,” Daniel said.

“I am not totally leaving the sport though, whenever I am available on race weekends you can find me working on dad’s Funny Car and mum’s Dragster, which I am also both licensed to drive.”

“But this weekend it is all about showing the car’s new owner the in’s and out’s of the vehicle and how to get the best out of it.”

“I can tell you I won’t be holding back though! It would be a great send off if we could put it back in the winner’s circle one last time in Reed Racing colours.”

Daniel’s father and Reed Racing team principle Steven Reed will also be competing at the Summernationals where he will be looking at clawing his way up the Championship ladder in the professional Top Alcohol bracket.

Piloting his 3500 horsepower Funny Car, Steven knows that despite a solid year of consistent performances and currently sitting in 6th position, the season now hangs in the balance.

“We are now in the second half of the 2007/2008 Australian Top Alcohol Championship and the leader board is looking very crowded towards the top,” Steven said.

“There is just 103 points separating 2nd through to 6th place, and 110 points available per round and still three rounds remaining.”

“With the pressure on at the Summernationals to gain maximum points we will definitely be turning up the wick for a good result as the season reached the make or break point.”
