Antron - Big Wreck

I was sitting in section 22 and it scared the stuffing out of me. Was super relieved to see Antron get out of that wreck and walk away. One of the scariest wrecks I've seen.

After that, I didn't hear anything about him for the rest of the day. I'm sure I missed the announcement or video on the screen as I did leave the stands a few times. But anyway, it was Sunday night around 7pm when I decide to leave and went thru the nitro pits.

There was Antron at the ropes being.... well, Antron! LOL It was so great to see him smiling and being animated. I have a couple great pics of this but photobucket sucks so bad now. I'm looking for a hosting site that is free, has a bulk uploader, and slideshow presentation capability.

The thing I noticed were the car not bouncing from lane to lane like they usualt do in a crash of that magnatude most likely because the rear tires were gone, also the frontend of the car was mostly intact other than the body panels missing ie didn't look to bent up, even the front wing and wheels were still there.

The Canopy did its job , AB came out of it in good shape.

I heard that as well. Kind of bugged me.

Not nearly what it could have been. The back half absorbed a lot of it.

I don't know, if you watch that YouTube video on Comp Plus they show the impact aftermath very up close and there were huge chunks of steel missing from the gate posts and extremely large chunks of concrete missing from the barrier. Had to be an extreme impact with the back of the car.

It was definitely scary to watch - I was holding my breath until we saw him emerge. I saw Antron in the pits as he was returning to the trailer. He looked shaken, but was otherwise fine.

We were down for about 1.5 hours while they repaired the wall. The car hit at a fairly shallow angle but still took a big chunk out of the concrete.

From our vantage point in section 21 (right at the 1/8 mile), it looked extremely scary. I don't think I've ever seen that much debris that was airborne, and the aftermath of it on the track. The applause that came up when the video screen showed Antron walking away was awesome.

The cleanup and repair took 1 hour 26 minutes and the safety safari did their usual fantastic job.

A stated above very violent crash, but what got my attention was the sound-Don't know if it was the result with my Bose sound system or not but it sounded like a bomb going off when crash started. Never had heard that before on TV. I might guess with the sound and fire it dropped a valve, the supercharger and manifold exploded, took out the tires and Antron was riding along.
Thank goodness for all safety equipment, stringent car specs and the Safety Safari. Wont get into the effectiveness of the canopy but believe it could have been a way worse outcome for Antron.

You heard what you heard. I was at the finishline and it was as loud as the boomer Tony Shoe had against us at Joliet 2012.

what is surprising to me is when someone goes through a wreck like this, he thanks everyone from god to the safety device manufactures to nhra.......the first person he needed to thank is the guy that welded that car together!!!
