O.K. Bob, I'm a complete f'ing idiot. You are right. I am wrong.

Please continue.

Bill you don't strike me as an idiot at all. In fact you have some valid points! Sometimes when things are let out of bag to soon it can affect a possible deal.
But it's usually smaller less viable companies who were flirting with the idea of the possibility.

I will disagree with you on this Bill.
I have friends who own some of those Fortune 500 companies you are referring to. They are more intelligent then you are giving them credit for!
If they are going to invest in something they do their research trust me.
If they see someone they want to represent their company they will go after them with a vengeance trust me I have seen it first hand!
If they pullout from basic rumors as you say they were not that interested in it in the first place!
CSK, UPS and now Rock Star are leaving after the 2008 season.
Economics is the 800 lbs gorilla that is affecting everyone’s efforts not these so called rumors.

Good points Bob, however... WHO REALLY MAKES the decisions about who to sponsor?? The Owners of these companies? Not really. They reley on their "MARKETING PEOPLE" and "Business Investment people" and other Managers they have working for them to compile some info on these potential and currently sponsored people. It's their jobs to provide this info to the people who SIGN THE CHECKS. A rumor can and usually does provide bad press for all parties involved, including these Fortune 500 companies who invest millions into a professional drag racing team. I can tell you from my personal experience, I have seen a potential 7 figure deal killed due to the old saying..."Loose Lips sink ships!"

In today's market, it's not about investing $2-$3 million in a PERSON who will represent you well, and the sponsor Seeking you out, but how that $2-$3 million will turn into $20-$30 Million in extra sales. It's about investing money to make money. Yes, the person who is sponsored has to represent them well, but it's more about the R.O.I. Bob.

Rumors have been, and always will be more HARM than GOOD. What possible GOOD have rumors EVER done?

Tim the owners I know know everything about their company and have final say on everything that has to do with it.
Owners are more involved than you think. They do have advertising people, P.R. and market research departments it still has to cross the desk of the owners for final say.
That's why I agreed with Bill if someone, always from within the potential team, that lets something out of the bag not the casual fan speculating what will go down.
Most rumors start with inside people letting the cat out of the bag fans just run with it. It's not the other way around.
I have no doubt about the deals you stated but understand were the breech comes from that kills the deal. ;)

I have to admit that I have been known to speculate as much as the next person. Having said that, while speaking to my brother about the Dixon/Prudhomme split rumor, he about stroked out!!! He started spewing about all the problems these kinds of rumors can cause, especially at this time of year. Crew members listen to this stuff and it can affect morale, performance and even decisions for future employment. There really is no such thing as an innocent rumor................

Not if the team owner keeps his crew informed and has team meetings.
Nothing impacts or spares team moral better than keeping the crew well informed.;)

The problem I have with the DIRT on the Dragstrip is that when a rumor is posted, the teams have to take time to answer these questions that start coming from everyone. They already work long enough hours and now they have to spend even more time on the phone.

It is a nice effort, but I just am not sure this is a good idea. IMO

I bet they just laugh at all us dummies speculating:)

Re: Shoe to hire Hillary Will

sorry no dark side for hillary. a.j is leaving the darkside. which after he does will not be winning any top fuel titles for a while, if it is true ms will will be the champ , wonder how tony will like that?

Since Tony was one of Hillary's most vocal critics, that wouldn't go over very well in the Schumacher camp! Whether Hillary stays with Ken Black or not I just hope she has a ride for next year!

people that hear rumors know they might be true. it has to affect people and the decisions they make. Has to. we're all human.

Seams to me that if a potential sponsor was interested in Hillary (or anyone for that matter), all they would have to do is ask that person if a rumor is true or not, especially if it pertains to their commitment to be their marketing person?
