One of the bummers of NHRA drag racing lately has been going to national events and not seeing hardly anything in the pits. The reason, all of the trailer canyons hide the race cars from the prying eyes of the very people that their sponsors pay the racer to make sure they are seen. It is maddening to even walk through the super stock and stock pits and all you see, hidden far in the back of the canyon is the rear of the car.

I would think, in an era of shrinking sponsor involvement in the sports, someone would figure out that the cars need to be seen in the pits. Frankly, I wouldn't invest in a car that fans could only see from the grandstands.

I don't think anyone does this on purpose and when we race our car we try to be as open, viewable and friendly to the fans as possible. We want them to come by. We never park anything or put anything behind the car behind the trailer and car. I have noticed what you are talking about at national events and some teams are more accessible than others.

There's also the issue of real estate, particularly on paved areas.

Man, I miss the old Chapparal/ Dualie days.... :D

Some of it also has to do with idiots. I know a number of people/teams that have taken to putting the cars in the trailers, and locking them up when possible because of jerks who have screwed with and/or stolen things from their pit. Ugh...
