Corrected using "regular" instead of of "real"Pretty sure all the racers running the 4-wide events feel they are participating in "real drag races".
You do understand that if 1 TF car is emitting 120 dB that 4 TF cars will not be 480dB , 4 times as loud.the main issue i would be concerned about, watching 4wide racing live, would be the eardrum busting sound, 4 nitro cars, in harmony, passing by. I'm normally ok with the db level, a couple cars make, but 4 is gonna definitely require some plugs![]()
They've got to try something but I'm not entirely convinced that the Countdown race in Charlotte will draw significantly more fans because of the switch to 4-wide. Time will tell but I think the lower attendance may be related more to the fact that it's the second major drag race and the third of four major racing events (never mind the other events held at CMS) in a media market ranked 21st in the country. That's a whole lotta expensive tickets chasing a medium sized audience.there's a reason why Charlotte made the September race 4 wide, they sell more tickets, so those fans clearly think they are seeing a "real drag race".
Ok, I'll take your word for it, and forgo the plugs. You do understand that if 1 TF car is emitting 120 dB that 4 TF cars will not be 480dB , 4 times as loud.
The best one's I've ever found believe it or not were at the Nitro Mall. Look like the one's Jim Head wears. They work, I use them at home with a diesel tractor and chainsaw etc.I don’t know why people don’t automatically put ear protection in as soon as they get to the track.
I never did until one day I was surprised by an unexpected throttle whack from about 20 feet.
I’ve worn hearing aids ever since that day.
Now I keep about 20 foam ear plugs in my camera bag while at the track.
I use the 3M earmuff style that we had at work. If you want something that fits in your ear they make some that can be fitted to your ear canal that I've seen at CabelasThe best one's I've ever found believe it or not were at the Nitro Mall. Wait; you mean top fuelers have speakers in them now??Ok, I'll take your word for it, and forgo the plugs.
If i end up suffering from hearing loss, you'll be hearing (pun intended) from my Lawyer![]()
Now you've gone and done it. That race has been dry for years. With the NHRA taking April off from regular Drag Racing and the next event (Rt 66) being in Chicago rain/tornado season, there is a real possibility that we might be 10 weeks away from a regular NHRA race.
Thinking IHRA (national events start end of June) blew a great opportunity to get rolling while NHRA was in "rest" mode?
Without watching that, and from a car audio standpoint, 2x power is an additional 3 dB. It’s a logarithmic scale. So if that rule applies, four cars would be about 9 dB louder than one, which is still very significant. You do understand that if 1 TF car is emitting 120 dB that 4 TF cars will not be 480dB , 4 times as loud.
Not tomorrow either. Not many nitro cars made it down the track, that many good crew chief's cannot all be making mistakes?!!!I'm surprised they are running both Pro sessions in the heat of the day. Why no night time qualifying today?
