Barf...the only good thing about 4-wide this weekend is that it doesn't happen again for a year.

Yeah, it was a fun concept, and fun for a couple events, but for me, the excitement is wearing off. Very seldom do all 4 cars make it to the end together, and it's hard to watch the cars and see what's happening.

Still think it should only be 2 rounds....

Rd 1... 4 winners
Rd 2.... winner, runner up, 3rd, 4th....

2 hours of Live TV

d'kid

got to allow for blow ups... they did not seem to have as many track prep crews as last year... i might be wrong.. clean ups took a while if in two lanes..

How many of you have actually attended the event and where did you set to watch it?

We are in the Force grandstand 36th row at the very end of the row, overlooking the pro staging lanes.

And I don't like 4 wide any more now than I did at the first race. I don't like 4 wide, but my love for the sport keeps me coming back. That, and I have a great RV site just outside of the main gate, and ZMax is close to home. So I'll keep coming back and hope that one day someone has the intestinal fortitude to say, "No more 4 wide for NHRA."

Apparently not many -- the stands are empty...

I believe that Z-Max has more seats than any other track. I will give you a dollar for every empty seat, and you give me a dollar for every seat with a butt in it. Deal?

Didn't think so........

Bobby, there are a lot of people who have attended the 4-Wide Nationals, and I agree with your sentiments. It is unreal to be there LIVE as the sound of 4 nitro cars launching is indescribable. Ear plugs almost fail to work it is THAT loud. I attended the 1st Official 4-Wide race two years ago and would go again, but I do agree with everyone stating it is hard to follow and keep up with 4 cars. Everything happens so fast that you really need slo-mo to figure it out, and you only get that on TV or the Motel 6 big screens at the track if you are lucky enough to catch it on them. I agree with Paul Sapienza that you have to go and experience it first-hand and then decide. TV just doesn't capture drag racing, and probably never will.

I was there.. had a ticket for section F row 10 seat 8..... sat there till the first boomer that took a while to clean up.. then walked down to the pits and hung at the fence near the tunnel once they started running again.......

i will give them this... alot of people there on saturday.. ( i went to the truck race sunday here in town).... hanging with some friends alot of people came by said it was their first time.. and that they were given tickets from different companys... which isnt a bad thing... somebody bought them and it put butts in the seats... just hope they do the same thing in the fall..

rounds.. when run without boomers.. just seemed... for me to go by too quick... and left me looking for more passes.... i'll be back in the fall..but i probably wont be back for the 4-wide...

I am not a 4 wide hater. I go to 8-10 National events each year and did attend the first 4 wide event.

I am glad I did attend 4 wide once to see what it would be like. I thought it was OK but, like many others have indicated, too much is going on at once and it's too hard to keep track of which car is which as they go down the track. I found the TV show yesterday just as difficult. The blimp shot was helpful but since you couldn't see the detail on the cars I found myself picking the two cars I thought would run the best and focusing on them while ignoring the other two cars. Even then I didn't know who the two winners were until Paul/Mike announced. Other than really close races, I should be able to visually determine the winner as they cross the finish line from the camera view, as is usually the case with the TV broadcasts.

To me, the 4 wide is a gimmick race. I have no desire to attend it again. However, I live in California so that is an easy decision to reach. I suppose if I lived on the East coast I might attend.

I found it interesting that Paul Page indicated that the fans love it. At the races I attend the subject comes up in discussions with people sitting around me and I have yet to find someone who has attended that really liked it. I'm sure some people do but it would be interesting to poll people who attend both Zmax events which one they like better.

As to Alan's comment on attendance, I thought there were a lot of empty seats too on the broadcast. Alan may be right on capacity. It would be interesting to compare attendance at 4 wide vs other east coast events except NHRA doesn't release that information.

What do you think they're supposed to do Phillip, trash the event format and Bruton??

Trash it? No. But, there's a difference between telling the audience every 15 seconds that everyone loves it (which they don't) and just presenting the race.
