Just received a call to confirm the passing of Gordie Bonin
240 RIP my friend

RIP Gordie, I must be a little younger then some of you guys. My memories are with him driving the Hawaiian Vacation FC and Smokin Joe's FC. One thing that was consistent is that he was a favorite all the time he raced.

yep, totally remember the bubble up fc as a kid....also remember his brief stint in modern TF in 1989.
if i remember rite he was victim of a giant wheelstand @ the '89 nationals.
rip mr. bonin.

A true Icon and Legend of the sport. RIP 240!!

Bubble-Up WAS my favorite flopper growing up. Never forget Ace beat him the final of the first race I ever went to 1977 here in Boise. Pretty good career (9 wins). He will be missed! At least he`s back now with Jerry Verhuel

It is quite a
Coincidence that Steve Evans (A TV COMMONTATOR)

and Gordie both left us at a hotel in VEGAS

Sad news. He was gracious when my son and I visited with him at a car show last winter or the winter before.

RIP, 240...

I was very young, but my 1st memories of 240 Gordie are of the BubbleUp Pacemaker Trans-Am. I recently saw a 6-pack of BubbleUp in our local Cracker Barrel. I think I'll go get it now in honor of his memory. RIP, 240 Gordie Bonin!

I first met Gordie at Indy in 1972 He was driving Hodgsons Pacemaker, He runner upped to Ed the Ace who beat us in the first round when the reverser handle broke and My dad couldn't get the car back in forward gear and stage after the burnout , I was all of 11 years old and was on tour with My dads car, Gordie and I have been friends ever since. Gordie was there when I needed someone to just hangout with, and just be a kid during the years spent on the road in the 70's. I was there on the starting line when He won Indy in 1979 I took a picture of Him leaving the line, I framed and gave Him that picture in 1993 when He was driving the Hawiian deal for Roland.

When dad passed in 1981 Gordie was there along with John Shoemaker, Amos Satterly who draged Me back out to the races.

When Gordie worked at NHRA He always made sure I was well taken care of at the races, If I wasn't working on somebodys car He always made sure I got to what ever event I needed to get to, and helped with getting Me work on teams, and help for My deals and race car plans .

When He left NHRA in 89' I was there with Him in Seattle during testing in the Top Fuel car, because Gordie said He needed somebody He could trust looking out for Him in the car.

He was Key in My working for Roland Leong, that was a great time for all of us.

Besides all the stuff He did in racing He has just flatout been a good friend , and a prince of a guy.

Gordie Bonin lived His life His way , and I am proud to call Him My friend.

Until we meet again...................godspeed Pal,

Did not expect something like this....very sad. We are quickly losing the historic figures of our sport , even the young ones like 240 Gordie.
The Bubble Up F/C was one of the icons....it had the " look", the performance, and was all over Super Stock & Drag Illus. and other mags when I was a kid.
