After a holeshot loss to Antron Brown at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, TJ Zizzo and the PEAK/Herculiner NHRA Full Throttle Series Top Fuel team are ready to put that behind them. That opportunity comes this weekend at the 46th Annual Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif. Zizzo, an Illinois native, has never been to the Golden State, much less raced there, but is looking forward to four days of nitro, as well as catching up with some friends who have promised to show him what California has to offer. Las Vegas, Nv -- Mickey Ferro and his RYCO Hydraulic Alcohol Funny Car Team are experiencing a storybook finale to the 2010 drag racing season. His team took home their fifth Wally in a row this past weekend at the Shortline Express sponsored Lucas Oil Pacific Division 7 drag race in Las Vegas. At the end of qualifying on Saturday, Ferro’s team sat in the 5th position which paired them in first round against Jay Payne. Cory McClenathan will be released from Don Schumacher Racing, following the conclusion of the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, announced team owner Don Schumacher today. McClenathan, who has been racing the FRAM Top Fuel dragster for DSR since 2008 and has been sponsored by Honeywell brands FRAM, Prestone and Autolite since 2006, is in the midst of a tight Top Fuel championship battle that includes him, Larry Dixon and Tony Schumacher. Rick Stivers, driver of the Trane Air Conditioning Pro Mod, claimed a top-ten championship position in the 2010 NHRA Pro Mod season with a quarterfinal finish at the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals. Stivers drove the Trane Stratus into the number ten championship position with his victory over Ed Hoover in the first round of eliminations at Vegas. Stivers qualified No. 4 with a 5.950-second pass, and delivered a 5.959 against Hoover's 6.001 in round one. In round two, Stivers faced Troy Coughlin. At the start, Stivers and Coughlin were nearly even, and the two raced side-by-side until the finish, where Coughlin crossed just four feet - less than half a car-length -- in front of Stivers, ending his season. Angie Smith’s crew in running for Hard-Working Crew Award When Angie Smith’s Coffman Tank Trucks Buell Pro Stock Motorcycle erupted into flames following her first qualifying run of the O’Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston, it looked like she would be a spectator for the remainder of the race, but her crew was determined to get her back on the track. They worked until early Saturday morning to fix the bike and Smith qualified 12th for eliminations.
